Clean Hostel, colourful doors, comfy beds and sofa. Friendly staff and Ervin (the guy with the moustache) was really helpful and friendly and he had an answer for each question, didn't matter what was it regarding to. Will definitely go back to Silver Gate. Thank you. Botond

A really comfortable hostel next to one of the gates to the old town. The guy at the reception seemed a little bit grumpy but you quickly forget that considering this awesome location and living room feeling you get in the hostel. Good hostel. Bear in mind that that two of the dorms are connected and if that is a problem for you.
Excellent location. Clean sheets, lockers in each room. One female shower not really enough for three dorm rooms! Fridge, kettle, plates, cups and cutlery but no microwave or stove.
Erwin, the man who worked there, was extremely rude, we arrived at the hostel and didn't even receive a hello. "You pay now" was the first thing he said. The female member of staff was helpful and nice though. No locks on dorm doors. Lockers were too small for normal traveler backpacks in. Atmosphere was poor due to feeling unwelcome. Only good thing is it's in the centre.
Great location. Security good. Erwin is great. Atmosphere and cleanliness average but mainly due to the people currently in the hostel. Average facilities but for the price I would definitely recommend.
Location amazing. BF & I had the double room in the apartment 2mins up the road w/an amazing view of the bell tower/ocean/market. No one is working @ the hostel until 9am, so if you take the ferry from Ancona you have to wait outside for 2hrs which sucks. The apartment w/private rooms is cleaned daily, &the kitchen has limited supplies (pots/pans etc) but good for basic meals. Great deal for the money with a double room, especially since it was basically a hotel.
The location of the property is great and it was fairly quiet for being so central. The staff weren't very forthcoming with information and when I asked about the ferries to Hvar, I was told to check at the ferry port for the times. There was no hot water in the girls shower when I was there and the shower head wasn't working properly. Otherwise, it was clean and comfortable.
I enjoyed my stay here. The shower was unfortunately blocked and i had to stand in a puddle of dirty shower water. a small hostel in a great location, perfect for my time in Split. unfortunately no cooking faciilities, and i left some food in the fridge, with my checkout date, and it went missing...?!
In the old town (perfect location), a bit expensive. If you are looking for a hostel in split is the one. On the other hand in this city is better looking some apartment directly at the bus station
1. Showers were warm 2. Great location 3. Staff were mostly helpful 4. Wifi worked well 5. Security during the day was good. However, every night people would invite people from other hostels back.. as there was no receptionist this meant the "parties" in the hostel could last until 2.30am.. it also created a security issue where non-guests were in the rooms & hostel late at night. 6. There's a fridge in the kitchenette but no stove etc. 7. Super comfy mattresses!
We were a bit dubious about staying here as the reviews weren´t great - but with low expectations, we were pleasantly surprised! Terrible security, but comfortable beds, clean and great air con! A perfect one nighter before jumping on a Croatia cruise from the main port (very close by).
Everything was great but our dorm was connected to another dorm and people would walk through our dorm to get to the toilet which would wake people up

Stayed in the apartment which is separate to the hostel. Was in a good location very close to the centre of the old town and right near the bus/train/ferry terminals. Is a good option for groups., but not as much atmosphere as a regular hostel, so it may be difficult for people on their own to meet people. Still, it was a very good option and would recommend it for people looking for something a bit more private.
Excellent location and the staff are really cool if you get to know them. Erwin let me check in early, which was very well received after a 16 hour train journey from Budapest, and then shared some beers and chatted about Split and the places to go. I'd definitely stop here again.
The location could not be better and the staff are so friendly and helpful! The only improvement would be air-con in the rooms but this wasn't so bad. Brilliant hostel!
I guess there was nothing really wrong with this hostel except that it didn't offer a ton for the cost. Super bare bones, packed rooms, small social area, no where to cook food, etc. All that and it still cost more than any other hostel during a 3 month trip. Maybe it's just Split for you and you won't find anything better...
only stayed for 1 night in 6 bed dorm, it has all the facilities. The location is the best part of hostel. Room is clean and spacious, quite good value.
This hostel is pretty central in Split, and very small and basic. It's got a real homely vibe to it, and everyone that stays there seems to get along. There are no real kitchen facilities to speak of, but there are usable shower rooms and toilets. You can do laundry there, but it hangs out to dry over the side of the hostel! The staff are really friendly and super helpful, couldn't fault them. Overall I had a good couple of nights there.
We were unaware we would have to walk through another dorm to access our own. Luckily none of us were too bothered by it, but we felt bad for the room we had to walk through! Great hostel, although a tea towel for drying cups etc. would have been useful

Location is great, but there are no kitchen facilities (just a fridge). Would still stay here again.
