just my room was very cold and the room just smell like weed all the time. the staff always un happy and the two girls overseas who were working there had very poor english skills, they were always in kitchen ganging out with their friends most of the time,

had a Great time, Really nice people. the kichen and the commonroom are nice to chill out. The room was good. Nothing special. You need to walk about 10 minutes to be in the city center.

firstly i sent an email 2-3 weeks ago and have had no reply making a complaint so untill i hear back about that expect it to be that low in feedback it could have been worse had i been able to say what i wanted.

Found the hostel very disappointing. It genuinely lacked character and it was easy to see among the other travellers/bunkers. The rooms were dirty, didn't see cleaners moving around at any point, the showers leaked all over the place and most toilets were broken. Felt a bit out of touch, chances are I think we rocked up at the wrong time.

It's a nice hostel not to far from the city center, you have to book a week for a discount on the price. Unfortunately contrary as they say, no free breakfast or free internet, yes you've got a voucher of 200MB, you have to let a deposit key of 50$ ... Staff not that friendly, but hostel clean.

Firstly it was missold we booked 5 nights on hostelworld in a 12 bed dorm but when you arrive there is a sign saying "no more than 3 nights stay allowed in the 12 bed" then you MUST upgrade to a 8 bed!! The rooms are noisy with outside traffic and too hot, stuffy. The man staff who just lingers about was unhelpful and rude. There is too many rules, the rooms are too narrow and small you have to keep "giving way" to people passing. I know it's already on here but the $50 key deposit!? Why so much??

Silverfern is a distinctly average hostel positioned in a slightly less attractive location than some of the big backpacker chain hostels in the CBD. Cleaning in the bathrooms is definitely one point that must be improved as well as perhaps abit more decoration to the characterless and bland appearance of the outlet. Front door security looked strong but yet again no lockers were available in the dorms. Staff were pleasant & helpful, relatively cheap so good for a night or two but non essential.

Good general experience. But we didn't appreciated when the staff member charged 10 dollars extra without saying anithing, because we were staying only one night in a twin bedroom

Not a bad hostel, quiet enough to get a good nights rest although the rooms get very hot during the day. The internet connection was hit or miss most of the time but it was free. The kitchen was big, the bathrooms clean however there were only three shower stalls in the woman's washroom to accomodate everybody in the hostel. The location was average, close to a homeless shelter and police station.

Kitchens are big, there's more than enough spaces to lounge around in, kinda lacks atmosphere though 'cause it's so big. Key deposit is WAY too high!

This hostel is well located, clean and with great areas but staff is not really friendly, especially the guy!! And you have one voucher for the WiFi so that you have to pay 10dollars when this voucher is over...really bad thing for an hostel in NZ. This system depends on the room type, but sure it is for the 10 and 12 beds shared rooms!!! Moreover, the key deposit is 50 dollars, and there are no locker in the room, you have to pay 4dollar/day if you need a secure locker at the reception.

The manager is welcoming and sympatical. Also their is a dynamic team. On top of that its not dear at all! I recommend newcomers to go there!!

They have bed bugs, the staff is by far the least friendly I have seen so far and their $50 key deposit is unacceptable! Plus they do not respect the reservation made online, they have their own rules!
