This place isn't a hostel as much as a few rented rooms in an apartment. Josh is a kind and helpful man. This is really not in Sintra but in the connecting town of Sao Pedro. It's a few kilometers up a steep hill. The city buses run up there often. I found it a wonderful town to stay in away from the tourist buzz in Sintra. The bus charge at 3 euros or 5 for a round trip makes it a place to park your pack and take the walk. It's a fantastic walk to the nearby Palace and Moorish castle from there

This hostel is a long way out of Sintra town. It took a long time to find it and a lot of walking - mostly uphill! Keep this in mind if booking here. The room was fine, if a little musty. The biggest problem is the communal areas. The bathroom was cold and didn't seem to have hot water. The lounge is cosy but it's shared with the owner who is a heavy smoker. Not nice if you don't smoke.
Our stay at Sintra Small Hostel was very enjoyable. Its rustic charm was a welcome change from the sometimes sterile atmosphere of international hostels. Jorge, the owner, was incredibly kind and helpful. I would happily stay here again anytime.
