Bungi Backpackers is a large, social hostel option in Queenstown. I only spent one night there, but the staff was extraordinarily friendly and supportive. Hostel and facilities are older and somewhat run-down, and the WiFi was spotty/non-functional. The kitchen is smaller, and fills up quickly. There is plenty of off-street parking. Hostel seemed to have lots of long-termers staying there, and can be quite noisy at night.

There was no wifi because the router was broken. Staff offered no way of making up for this even though they acknowledged it was an issue they needed to fix. Staff also closed down reception earlier than the hours posted so I couldn't get a towel to take a shower.

It is very well located, walking distance from shops, restaurants, Queenstown Gardens. The staff is friendly and make free soup everyday in the evening. There is free parking and they offer lots of information about yours and special deals. Although, the place is very noisy all day, specially at night after 10pm. There are lots of long termers. The staff vaccums the place around 8pm. The Wifi is awful. Bedding was dirty.

No lock for the main door. There were only "beds" in the room. no hangers, closet, etc. the worst thing was one of the staffs opened our door without knocking or anything. It was not only once while staying. Just came in to check something. Also about cleaning time, they cleaned the shower way too early. Even before checking out time so sometimes we had to wait for them finishing cleaning first. Vacuum everyday aroun 9pm was also weird, never seen it in any hostel I stayed.

Free soup, chili and location is good, bathrooms and kitchen are a bit shabby but do their duty BUT if you are in need of sleep it's nearly impossible - it's nice that they provide a heater but unfortunately you can't turn it off. Housekeeping staff starts vacuuming the hallway at 8-9 am and after entering the room without knocking they let the door open (even when you're not in your room - happened several times) and our room was next to the TV-Lounge with people watching movies til 4 am.

So many long termers and staff were pretty unintelligent and just not your typical happy hostel worker. Bad location up a big hill from downtown. I thought the place itself wasn't bad...it's just not like...Nice haha. If you're a dirty, bummy type traveller, this is your place. Wifi was awful too.

Bungi was a good place to store your things, shower, eat, and sleep - everything you want in a backpackers. An older building, it has quite a lot of class. Located very close to the centre of Queenstown its only a short walk to anything of interest - relatively easy to trek to the NZSki Bus stop for Coronet and Remarkables peaks. The Backpackers host an event each night, ranging from Pub Crawls to Movie nights to other things - great for imeeting new people on your trip.
