I liked the place and it had a nice fireplace to sit next to but it was far from the hiking trails. The hostel said they'd give us a ride for 30 dollars but it was less than 20k away. Then they asked we arrange the same return time with the other people at the hostel so they don't have to come multiple times. If we're paying, they shouldn't make us rearrange our schedule to accommodate them. Luckily a girl that had a car offered me a ride. I would suggest renting a car or asking for rides.

Lovely place to stay if you're doing the Tongariro Crossing. Cosy and nice to relax in after a hard day's walk.

Perfect stopover for our trip to the Tongariro Crossing. We had a private room which was out in the cottage at the back because they were so busy, and it was very cute. Small shared kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Plenty of free parking onsite and shuttle to crossing was $35 pp. Bit further from only restaurant/bar in village (needed after walk), but we enjoyed our stay here!

Good room, with good shower and average heating. We arrived after reception was closed, but they could accomodate us with no problem. Kitchen is large and well equiped. Silence is incredible! We could sleep listening only the wind outside. Staff is very carefull about security for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. They checked our equipment and lended me gloves and hats, and rented sticks and a wind breaker. I can say that, definitively, their worries saved our lives.

Advertised free WiFi isn't free but quite expensive unless you're not a member of their hostelling association. Front door's never locked. Very nice fireplace, a pool table lounge and comfortable beds though. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff.

Appreciated being able to arrive late and find everything we needed. Walls a bit thin but not sure you can do much about it.

Unremarkable stay, serviceable hostel. Kitchen is clean. Bathrooms are clean. Eftpos card reader was broken making transactions difficult. Atmosphere as grim as the weather that day.

very helpful staff, spacious and well equipped facilities
