Very nice staff, with excellent english language (the owners are british and do their best to give western travelers a feeling of being home) and located in a quiet area of Dali. Has a stove in the common area and a bed heating in the rooms, so no need to wear a jacket indoors as everywhere else in China. It was the best hostel during our stay in China!

I booked this hostel for two nights. Overall the stay wasn't anything special. The staff spoke good English, the beds are fine and it was easy for me to get a good night's sleep, but there were several problems. The shower's cold water handle was broken so it only had scalding hot water. They took an hour to make my breakfast because only one person was making the food. Also, the hostel was extremely quiet and no one used the commons. It's an ok place to stay for a few nights, but not great.

Sleeping Fish is the next generation of hostels. It felt more like a cozy hotel than a hostel. We booked a private room which rivalled any hotel room. Linen, decor was all new and tasteful. Directions, help to book train/bus were critical and the staff went out of their way to help. Food is excellent and best part, any bits you buy or order, you can charge to your room and pay when you check out. Finally!! Highly recommend Sleepy Fish and their cafe.

Nice place to stay, doubled the nights also because Dali is a nice town. The ensuite bathroom has a good look and feel. It's noisy though if you're in the bed and roommates use the water and toilet. Beds are better than most dorms! Menu and food is good, but a bit pricey. Recommended place.

Loved staying here. Beautifully maintained garden (feel the stress ebb away!) Friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. Great food and 2 adorably gentle dogs. We're grateful we came!

Basic lodge in old town Dali, 15 min bike ride from the lake. The rooms are basic but very clean. We traveled in the summer, and it was a bit too hot in the evenings, even with a fan. If traveling in the summer, I'd recommend you request a room that is not on the top floor.
