Everything was great. The room was great. The food was great. The location was great. The water pressure was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. One of my favorite hostels anywhere. The weather sucked when I was there, but that's not really the hostel's fault. In sum, there is nothing not to like about this place; I liked it so much I stayed two extra days. My condolences on the death of the wonderful doggie there who passed away during my stay. She was so sweet and special!

Very nice guesthouse. Comfortable bed, good shower, nice space around the bunk bed and a little electric fan. There are some very sweet dogs on the premises. Good breakfast. Just bring earplugs. The neighbour's chickens curiously sound like foghorns.

As reviewing my trip, this choice was the best. In there I met so nice ppl, what s more is the facility was spwcially gd. I stayed dormitory the bed was neat and comfortable. Hot shower is available, body wash was provided. The location was gd but little bit far from center maybe 15mins walk

The hostel is nice enough but the twin private room is so small that the door cannot even open without hitting the bunk bed. This should only be a single room (or a janitor's closet). Very claustrophobic. Also it is a bit of a hike to the one shared toilet/shower which seemed to be shared between quite a few people. I'm sure that if you picked any of the more expensive rooms none of this would be an issue and it would be a nice stay (except for the constantly barking dogs).

Our preferred hostel throughout our 4 week trip to China! The roof terrace twin with en-suite represented excellent value for money and style to boot. The western food made for a nice change and a welcome reminder of home (if required). The accommodating staff and friendly & informative management all helped to make the Sleepyfish hostel the ideal place to chill in 'laid-back' Dali. Many thanks Max and for the tip for Shangri-la too....we loved it!

This place I totally recommend! Great for western travelers who don't speak mandarin. The one draw back is a neighborhood dog that barks around the clock.

My wife and I really enjoyed our three night stay at the Sleepy Fish. The accommodation, price, assistance, food, location, and services were all excellent, the property very well cared for. Nothing else like this place exists to my knowledge in Dali. We would highly recommend and only could wish for a comparable option later in Old Town Lijiang!!

Fabulous hostel. Hands down the best room we've had throughout our time in China. Thanks for organising the day trip with the English speaking guide. Breakfast was amazing too! Compliments to the chef.

Wonderful place to stay in Dali. The lodge is great property and has a very welcoming atmosphere. The owners are really well organized, and will gladly help you arrange activities (e.g. biking, kayaking) in Dali as well as transport to other cities. Highly recommended.

It's a 'trendy' hostel in my point of view, that I like the decoration of its common area very much. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is great (they have two really CUTE dogs!!). Everything is good in general, and it is a good value-for-money stay. The only drawback is the weak wifi signal in the upstairs rooms.

Very pleasant 5 night stay. Excellent friendly and very helpful staff. Able to organize local tours painlessly and onward connections. Would highly recommend.

The best "value for money" hostel of our trip in Yunnan. Te staff can speak English, possibility to take book and DVD in all languages, good food (I recommend the broccoli and cheese soup), very nice and clean room with balcony. Dogs lovers will be happy.

An awesome place to stay! My wife and I, both 30, were travelling through Yunnan during our winter break from school in Beijing. The location is incredibly convenient for travel from Xiaguan (and the Dali train station), as well as travel around the area. This was a quiet place to stay, very relaxing and easy to call "home." Hopefully you will be lucky enough to stay on a night when they fire up their wood-fired brick pizza oven, but even if not it, breakfast is incredible. A great value!!

This was a hotel for hostel prices. But with the cosy fire to socialise at. (If only I would have the health and guts to move to China at age 80) And I happen to be a soup and salad type- yes, it might be strange to long for Western fare whilst in China, but if you do, this place is a dream

Rooms are very spacious and very clean. We had a nice little balcony. Location was a good bit outside of the old town so if you wanna get away from the night life it's a good spot. But you will have to walk awhile to get to good restaurants and shops. Don't confuse this place with a hostel. Not much of a common area for guests so it's a different environment than most hostels. Good place for families. The staff was alright but not very helpful when we asked for directions to nearby villages.

We received excellent advise from the staff on train and bus schedules and what to do in Dali. I also had the best latte in Yunnan :)
