Was more like staying in our own apartment. There was no lift but the owners helped us with our suitcase. The hostel isn't very attractive from the outside but was very nice inside. There is a supermarket right next to the hostel and kitchen was available to use. Only 5 minute walk to the walled part of Lucca and a 15 minute walk to the train station.
We arrived around 8 pm and the owner was there to welcome us and give us some tips about where to eat etc. The place is located a 10-15 minute walk to the old town, but that was fine. The room was clean and the place had all the basics, including towels and a fan, although it was still very warm in the room. The supermarket is very close by. Only downside was the kitchen which wasn't very clean. I would stay here again (and eat out).
We had a pleasant stay here. Fabio, the owner, was so lovely and was happy to answer any questions we had. He made us feel very welcome. The only downside is that it is *just* outside of town which meant about a 10-15 minute walk to the old town. This wasn't too much of an issue for us but if you have heavy baggage and are travelling without a car it is quite a walk from the train station. The rooms were clean and the place had all the basics. The wifi was average. I would stay here again!
Very close to the train station and Porta Elisa, which gives access to the historical city center. Very helpful host who recommended us what we should visit and best restaurants in Lucca. The day we left, we were allowed to keep our luggage inside Sogni d´Oro, what allowed us to take a train and visit Pistoia
Fabio gave us a map and some great tips on what to see and where to eat in the old town of Lucca - I had the best meal of my trip at Leo's! The hostel is inexpensive, rooms are spacious, towels provided, kitchen facilities available, close to the old town and supermarket. Downsides, there were a few loose tiles on the floor and the shower head had to be held as the wall bracket was broken in the shared bathroom. Wifi available, but someone took the password so we couldn't use it. Overall good.
The staffs are not there most of the time, so if you arrived off the scheduled time it could create problems if you don't have access to a phone. Also, the shared bathroom shower is a bit in rundown state.
The hostel at the time of visit was very quiet with only one other guest staying at the time of our group's visit. We were very kindly welcomed, given great information about Lucca and had a lovely 3 bed room perfect for our needs. The hostel is basic, but this was fine for me and my regular hostel-going friends. There is a great bar a few doors down which even the locals regard as the best in Lucca and the city itself is beautiful. lovely hostel, lovely stay, will go back again for sure!
Beds were comfortable. There didn't seem to be anyone else there. Shower bracket was broken. So it had to be held by hand. Fridge hadn't been defrosted for some time. Tea towels and cloths in kitchen were very dirty and obviously hadn't been changed for a long time. Supermarket was close by.
