This hostel was average, nothing special. Staff were good, friendly and helpful. My main concern was security of the rooms. Most of rooms were not contained within the main building and it was very easy for someone to walk straight off the street and into some of the rooms without the need of access codes or keys. Lockers were available, but not in or that near to my room, so a bit pointless.

This hostel is quite price per value for us. The location is not so far from the main street while not as noisy as the main street is. We spent two nights in YHA Central which was quit terrible since it was very noisy in the evening. But Southern Laughter is definitely better. We had the good time there.

The hostel is placed near town centre so it was calm. The hostel has a great atmosphere and great deco, but could be renovated a bit and cleaner. The bathrooms are extremely small. The kitchen is spacy and well equiped, the lounge is also nice, there is a balcony where you can eat your meal. The staff is very helpful. The hostel is full of great places to sit and chat (plus jacuzzi) and in the night is completely silent. Overall it was a good place to stay in Queenstown.

We stayed in a shared 2 unit suite, the supplies needed to cook were laking and unclean. We also found underneath our bed filth and dirt. There was also an old pot with molded popcorn in it under the bed. The location was great but the amenities could be better.

Felt like in a whorehouse. Been in another hostel in Wanaka, which was like a 5* hotel compared to this one. Small room with small beds, and i'm 193cm tall. Only one toilet and one bathroom near our room, so had to wait for a while to use them. Low or no soundproof- so i could hear everything.

The employees were very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was great, the facilities themselves were not the cleanest but overall we had an enjoyable time

The hostel is just dirty and unkempt and that on top of dated house, furniture and decoration makes you feel that nobody cares about it. Sketchy carpet; smelly hallway and room; loads of hair clogging the shower drain; windowless bathroom with a dust-packed exhaustion fan; too-long, stained and ripped fabric shower curtain always soak in wet; dirty kitchen closets; loose wooden room floor... Staff was nice and helpful; location is good.

Everything was perfect except for the kitchen was not fully furnished (there are two kitchen, I guess we were staying at the new kitchen) and some needed repair (the oven is not working during my stay).
