It's really stupid to clean all the bathrooms at the same time, because then if someone needs to go then they can't.

i stayed in a single room here so not sure what dorms are like. Not much character to the place, there is a spa here open until 10pm. The wi-fi is a rip off $1 per 10mb which is nothing. You can use their computers but there are no cameras for Skype. But then most of New Zealand is like this I think.

Get the double room if you can while staying there - it is really worth doing that, as it costs just a little bit more than the twin room, but is much nicer. Upon the whole it is a nice place to stay in Rotorua.

Spent our time here over Christmas and it was a great hostel... Staff were super friendly and they organised a Christmas BBQ which was really cool. Rooms were a little small but that was no issue, as it was just a place to sleep. Thanks guys

Really an excellent choice. Very nice, small hostel. The guy at the reception was very friendly and always ready to give you advices on what to do in Rotorua. The hostel was clean. Spa pool very relaxing. The price was awesome: i paid for a spacious, clean single room only 39 dollars (non-BBH member).

we really enjoyed staying in spa lodge.....it is in a great location and all the services provider are good.....we will definitely stay there again when we come back to rotorua.

They have a nice spa with real natural hot water. Very helpful staff. I will stay again when I come back to Rotorua. Thank you!!

it's an awful place: the common room is depresing' and the furnitures very bad' the rooms are not clean' and there are muscitos in the bathroom and toilets. the worst place i've been in new zealand.

Absolutely terrible! The worst hostel I have stayed at yet. Very grungy, small rooms and dirty communal toilets. S'taff wasn't any help when our shuttle to hells gate didn't come - he barely spoke English. The place desperately needs a refurb. The worst was the "hot spa" that looks so beautiful in the picture - hasnt been cleaned in what looks like years! The bottom and sides were literally black with grime and the water was gray with dirt. The smell was worse then the sulfuric pools! Terrible!

Pretty grotty hostle in need of some maintenace and a good clean. Musty damp smell in the room, no soap in the toilets for the 3 days we were there, had to use handgel. Good location but id stay somewhere else if I was coming back

Very old hostel that would really need a good renovation. To go to the common bathroom area, you need to go outside and the bathroom is open-aired. Not a good experience during the winter time at all!! We made a washing machine and the dryer was not working. Our clothes were dried after four hours in the dryer!! We had to wait until 1am to have our clothes back!! Buy a new one! The room prices were the same from a lot other places so...

Decent, reasonably priced hostel. Starting to look and feel a bit tired looking - could probably do with a bit of a refurb soon.

A little dated and bed wasn't the most comfy. However, it was a cheap and cheerful I suppose and you get what you pay for. The lounge was comfy enough to chill out in and watch a DVD.
