Spencer Hostel won my heart, great people great atmosphere. It has this real hostel feeling, its not five star hotel, but it really feels like home there or when you want backpacker experience but not too extreme, then choose Spencer-City Central. Most recommended are rooms for 4 people on third floor.

THE BAR IS CLOSED but they advertise that it is open. BED BUGS in almost every room - TV room is infested. Fridge broke often. Many doors left unlocked - some don't lock. The building is completely falling apart; the owner clearly has no intention of fixing it. The fire escape stairway itself is a disaster waiting to happen. The business owner has no intention of maintaining the premises, unless the guest nags repeatedly. The kitchen is large, but lacking utensils and flatware.

Terrible room and overall cleanliness: Bed bugs, musty, smelly, broken lamps. Next time I would rather sleep in a park. Seriously. I saw previous terrible reviews and still decided to stay there... Now I will trust the reviews before booking.

The linen looks clean but not the rooms. My room was full of rubbish from wing glass to plastic bag of potato chips to receipts... I believe there was no bed bug but there were something made me having red itchy swellings on my limbs.... The sink in the kitchen is always a mess by the way! One good thing, there are free tea and coffee with individually packed milk and sugar.

Overall the place was good- you get what you pay for and that\'s exactly what you should expect. The room was simple and had everything we needed. A fan/air con would have been nice- don\'t know how people would manage in Summer! Was a nice surprise to find that towels were included :)Staff were friendly. Place was very clean and about 15-20 min walk to CBD. Overall, we were more than satisfied with the hostel :)
