Beds the size of an exercise mat, noise all through the night n morning, no fan or air con, holes in the walls of the shacks let light in, no plugs in room so no where safe to charge things, cheap but not good enough considering other guesthouse in this area are a lot better for only a little more money

Can stay at far better places for cheaper. There lacked any real party atmosphere as claimed by the website...good outdoor deck though

A really nice hostel, different sleeping in the tree houses alright, but the beds were comfortable and it was good fun.

The funky treehouse dorm is a fun idea but for the price, you can easily find your own single room in lots of guesthouses around Vang Vieng. The dorm is a good way to meet people but in Vang Vieng you can meet people almost anywhere. Heard lots of stories about the partying that goes on at SpicyLaos but was pretty quiet during my stay. The dorm is a bunk bed pretty much outside and quite dirty considering I contracted pink eye in both my eyes the one night I slept there. Cover your pillows!

Nice hostel with a Laos living experience. We got robbed in the room, money in one of the pockets of a trousers. There is just one person English speaker, the others don't understand anything at all. We were in January, and the night is cold, and we had to ask for blankets many times before get them. The environment and the landscape views in the common room are very good.

I stayed in the 16 bed dorm and it was very much 'treehouse style' but it was lots of fun. The bed wasn't the most comfortable but the mosquito net made sure I didn't get bitten by anything during the night. The facilities are a bit rustic but the reason to stay here is the social scene and the cool, relaxed vibe created by the bamboo huts, the hammocks on the balcon in the common area and the campfire in the middle

You come to Vang Vieng to party right? The party starts here and finishes here. This place is loose, right down to Lan the bloke who runs it - he'll probably be out partying with ya. I hope you don't plan on sleeping because you won't be. Good place to meet people if travelling alone.

We had a great time, met a fantastic crew of people and Lan (the manager) was great fun! We stayed over Christmas and they let us decorate the communal area :) we loved spicy Laos!!

interesting place but it was overall pretty dirty (sheets!), seemed unsafe and the staff doesn't speak a word of english. you sleep in a tent and can hear everything that's going on at the hostel. we didn't get one night of good sleep there.

Was great fun living in a treehouse but wouldn't have wanted to be there too much longer. Even though it was a 16 bed dorm it still had privacy curtains but noisy travellers can be a slight issue.

Great place to meet people, open air type dorms - if your going to VV to party then this is the place. It has a good bunch of fun loving people staying here. Basic, rustic, but still good!

Had no idea what to first expect when coming to spicy, but it was awesome. The only thing is that you can pay just as much in town and get a place with a big bed and air conditioning. However this place has a lot of character and the whole tree fort idea is amazing. It was an awesome place to meet people and all in all a fantastic time. I love the idea of the spray paint too, gets everyone involved and ready for tubing.

I did not stay at this hostel. I arrived and was dubious about staying there. We waited for about 10 minutes without anyone appearing to help us, we had a quick look around and decided not to wait and walked out knowing we would still have to pay. The decription of the hostel is not accurate in my opinion. It is a shack and no more. There are no doors and the small lockers available are essentially outside - it seems incredibly un-secure.

Don't expect any luxury in this Hostel it's basicaly a camp in the bush but it is soooo nice especially if you travel alone. YOu have no chance to stay alone. Mama Lao and the team is very helpful only downside was that the security isn't the best, you have to rely on your lock and the other travellers and the internet wasn't woking for days which was bad because many travellers had to plan their further trip and could not do it in the Hostel... oh and don't expect a silent night ;-)

VERY basic. Slept on a matress in a bamboo hut with a mosquito net over, although really enjoyed the experience. Has hot showers and a nice little communal area to meet fellow tubers.

As for a place that offers rather basic accommodation, it's very clean and feels safe (don't forget to bring a lock and you can place your belongings in a locker for free). It's without a doubt a great place to meet fellow travellers and go tubing together, that's for sure! How much of a party hostel it is? Hmmm, the hostel itself does not seem to be organising pub crawls or other activities itself, yet there are places open in Vang Vieng itself, so you should be fine.

Wow, what a hostel! The setup of Spicy Lao is basically like an adult version of overnight camp. The "dorm" area is more like a huge camp cabin and the hostel has a nice communal area, which makes it really easy to be social with fellow travelers. In addition, the hostel owner Pong, makes sure that each and every guest gets the most out of his/her time in Vang Vieng. Most days there are large groups from the hostel that go down to the river and other options if you need a day off.
