Nice idea of a hostel! In the nature, simple rooms and toilets but nice chil out area. Unfortunately an awfull staff (just very bad vibes) and an unfinished pool...
Facilities and dorms are super basic but if you can look past that it's like being at summer camp! Extremely social hostel and amazingly helpful staff (Paul is an amazing dude!). Great if you want to chill out and watch movies or if you want to party and make great friends. The hostel organized weekly activities to get everyone together such as BBQs or snorkelling trips. About a 10 min walk to town, its quiet and safe feeling at night. We stayed about a week and could've done longer!
A nice place with friendly staff and a nice common outdoor area. Bathrooms were gross and beds were uncomfortable, not complaining though as it is the cheapest place I've found on the Island, value for money is there.
Atmosphere - Bropacker heaven, initially unfriendly atmosphere and a real cliquey feeling. Cleanliness - Poor, bathroom was disgusting, stubble and empty product bottles everywhere, a guy p***** on the dorm floor and I didn't see it sanitised for the entire time I was there. Staff - Other than the Thai guy, Kit, the staff were super obnoxious and up themselves, how about they spend less time lazing about, drinking and smoking and more time maintaining the place?
Generally I liked the hostel, as it's good to chill out and meet people. It's very cheap and the stuff is friendly. The only thing I didn't like were dogs sleeping in my dorm. And there is no security at all. Everybody can get to your room as the hostel is on an opened ground and you can't lock the room.
Very nice hostel. Best way to meet other backpackers. Staff is great and helpfull. Met so many people over there, and very cheap!! only 200 bath a night!

Awesome stay! Book in advance, this place gets crowded.
The best thing about this hostel is the atmosphere. They work hard to ensure that there is a community feel, and although I was only there for 2 nights this definitely stood out. They organize group activities at costs lower than tours in town, and provide ample opportunity to spend time with the other guests. It is a little bit far from the main strip, but it is easily walkable and the distance was well worth the awesome atmosphere and friendly faces.
the hotel was pretty far from the beach, which wasn't a problem for me but, eventhough this will depend on guests, the dorm was a mess and bathroom disgusting. i didn't spend enough time here to notice anything particular about the atmosphere. the staff wasn't particularly nice (when they brought me the bed linens, the girl brought a blanket instead of a sheet and said "oh well, i hope you won't be too hot"...)
Location set off the beach by about 10 minutes but it's very scenic. Great atmosphere and common area. Rooms have mosquito nets on doors which is good because there's plenty around at night. Some of the staff could have been friendlier.. seriously.
Excellent hostel. Great social atmosphere (although music rather than (or as well as) tv, might promote more social interaction? Sometimes it felt rude to talk to others, as a couple of ppl were on movie marathons. A novel luxury to have though) Had an excellent stay, and some good trips/events organised by the hostel. Would recommend it to others. Though the manager/owner's girlfriend, Ashley, and other staff, had a sharp tongue and dismissive attitude at times. Kit himself was lovely though.
Nice place, friendly staff and a great way to meet new people. Can be a bit noisy as there is no curfew in the dorms.
the atmosphere there is amazing. it makes you feel like home. everybody knows each other and it´s perfect to meet other people. they offer nice trips with the other guys from the hostel. i would always come back! i really enjoyed it there.
I guess it all comes to the day in which you stay in a place, so this was my day I stayed at Spicytao, probably other days the experience is different. Anyway, the place was like a hipster camp. Neo-cool people laying down, sleeping the hangover out all day long. Not that I do not like party, but do not see the point of being in KohTao to just sleep during the day. Place was dirty, nice location with a different approach. Nice staff though.
Nice place to stay, really social atmosphere and perfect for a traveller, travelling on their own.
Awesome place with great staff. So laid back and relaxed, yet there's always an opportunity to party if you feel like it. Felt like home here and stayed more than a week. Perfect for getting in touch with other backpackers. Stay here if you are planning to do a freediving course, they got this deal with one of the schools on the island so you will get an extra day for free. Would definitely stay here again.
I'd consider going back to Koh Tao just to go back to Spicy.

The people and atmosphere at this hostel is what makes it really enjoyable. Facilities are average - there are only cold showers and the location is a bit of a walk out of the main Sairee beach, especially in the dark at night but most people who go there know this. There is always movies playing out in the social area and they often have special meals night so it's easy to meet people which is great.
Two friends and I booked into this hostel for four nights but only ended up staying for one. It is located quite far out from the main area in Sairee and I would not recommend staying here if you are a single female traveller as it is located down dark, unlit roads and in the middle of the forest. The bathroom was absolutely filthy that I couldn't even go in there WITH flip flops on.
