If you want to experience every 'traveller' cliche you're likely to witness backpacking in Thailand then Spicy Tao is the place to be. Some alright facilities and a few really nice people but majorly overridden with would-be-hippies who seemed to like the place so much they stayed there ALL day (which makes you wonder why the bothered coming to Thailand!). Really mixed group of staff members - management was quite nice but the Russian woman at reception was just so negative and rude.

best place to meet others yet its far enough away from the beach that you can simply just relax if needed. cheap food, cheap laundry, and cheap beer all nearby. the atmosphere is setup so you will enjoy yourself.. and it was the cheapest place on the island when I booked. I would recommend the hostel to post walking directions from the pier as it isn't that far (20 mins)

At spicytao we have stayed for 6 nights and we have enjoyed it! All the people have been really cool and helpful! And the evenings have been never borring! thanks to all for the great time we had!

This is very much a hostel for people who have been travelling a long time, as they all know eachother or prefer the people who have been travelling a long time. The room has no natural light, there was no mattresses just a thin mat, and the shower that you have to share with 10 people is pretty poor, we bought an air con room and I still woke up sweating in the night.

Positive - incredible atmosphere, so friendly, staff helpful and always organising events, social area to watch movies and chat, free breakfast Negatives - not all air con rooms, cold showers, uncomfortable beds Best hostel on Koh Tao, 100% recommend it. Perfect for lone travellers and those on a tight budget looking for fun!

Fun place to chill. Good people to chill with. Staff were informative and fun to hang out with :). 2 minute walk to town, 5 minute walk to beach. Definitely recommend it!

Was very disappointed by this accommodation after reading other peoples reviews. The room was dirty, the bathroom was horrendous. We were in a fan room but there wasnt enough fans to support the amount of people in the room. One guy actually slept on the floor so he could be next to the fan. Staff were very unhelpful (apart from one girl) and seemed too hungover to help. Location is pretty bad. Wouldnt stay here again. Only good thing was tv area. See more of my review on tripadvisor.

Spicy Tao is a great hostel if you want to meet people. A nice common area with a long table, and a sort of lounge area where you can watch movies. Very popular hostel, some nights the hostel was fully booked. It's a few minutes walk from the main streets and Sairee beach. The walk up to the hostel, when it's at night, is quite dark, so you have to watch your step. The rooms are basic. No hot water. If you have the chance, join the dinner at spicy, it's amazing!

Quality atmosphere and good friendly staff. A bit of a walk from the beach but it's not too bad. Rooms could've been a bit cleaner. Other peoples dorms had a problem with the shower pressure but mine was cool.

Great place to stay in Koh Tao, with a good social vibe and lots of events with local chefs, other hostels and other dive schools (just some examples)

I've stayed here multiple times. Amazing vibe and can meet other backpackers very easily. Highly recommend.

Great hostel, loved staying here. Its only a 10 minute walk to the beach and in a nice quiet location. Good social area too to meet others staying here.

Had a nice little stay. Everything on Spicytao is not perfect but the great hang out and atmosphere is what you remember from the stay :-)

Far from the beach, hard to find your was back and easy to get lost. we booked a room with aircon and yet we were told we had to have one with a fan. Not okay. Then we we given out bed linen and told to make our own beds, I've stayed in a lot of hostels before and have never had to do that. After a 20 hour journey I just wanted a shower, unfortunately there is no electricity during the day so I was unable to shower. We abruptly left and found a guesthouse next to the beach for the same price

Amazing location just a short walk to the beach! Dorms are clean and lockers are provided! Great atmosphere with a great chill out area, cheap beers and perfect for solo travellers to meet people. Booked one night and ended up extended up staying 5! Would definitely recommend and will defiantly come back next time I'm in Koh Tao

After staying in a lot of Hostels I learned to value atmosphere. And this hostel is all about atmospher. Very delightful place with great people around. Facilities are OK. Nice Bungalow dorm resort . Little far from main road (ca. 10 minutes walk) but this makes the hostel so perfect for chillout :-) A lot of possibilities to come together like watching movies, having card games, having a beer or joining all you can eat BBQ Parties. Simply Nice :-)

It wasn't the cleanest hostel, or at the best location, but the atmosphere made it all seem just minor faults. The best hostel so far. I strongly recommend staying at Spicytao!

The staff is great and the environment is awesome. This is the place to stay if you want to meet people. It's a bit of a walk from town, 5-10 minutes. There's nowhere close by to get food, you have to go to town, though there is a kitchen so you can cook if you want. It's a bit rustic, kind of an outdoors atmosphere, so don't expect one large facility with everything inside. Overall a cool place. Definitely the best value in town, and no question it's the best place to meet new people!

Great staff, and the communal area is great to chill out and meet people. ALWAYS use the lockers for your valuables!! Especially if you are in the dorms further away from the reception. Our dorm was robbed one evening (he didnt get much). He must have been hiding in the trees watching the dorm for a while, waiting for everyone to leave. There are no locks on the dorm doors. However, I would stay here again as its super chilled out and the staff are always friendly and willing to help.

The atmosphere was really Nice and social. Location is not too bad, 10 min. walk from center/beach. It is in the dark however; solo girls may not like this. The hostel is very cheap. However, that is no excuse for the State of the rooms: disgusting. I have been in many hostels so I don't expect any luxury but this was too much. Dirty floors, matresses, even the sheets. There is a cat which smells sick and always sits on the beds/pillows. The dorm Doors don't lock so it's hard to keep it out
