Excellent hostel if you're looking to meet people, do things as a group, go out as a group, etc. Almost everybody staying there stayed out late. Very interesting people. I stayed other areas within Chiang Mai, and overall the city seems very relaxed and slow. Maybe this is obvious but if you're looking for a quite, relaxing stay, opt for a guest house in the old city.

Spicy is a little ways away from the center of the city but don't look at that as a bad thing. It's in a really nice little part of town you likely wouldn't see otherwise and only a cheap ride away from the center. Also, the staff is absolutely wonderful. The owner Noom helped me out with a very important task I had here in Chiang Mai and I can't thank him enough for how much it meant to me. Stay at this hostel!

Great place! Noom, the owner, is an awesome dude. Super helpful (and very understanding haha).. bit out of town but helps to organise taxis and stuff.. great clientele and really friendly! Tab system for buying beers was great. Had an awesome time and would highly recommend.

This hostel was the closest to home away from home I have ever been. There wasn't a lot of security because it wasn't really necessary. The owners were extremely helpful when it came to booking tours, renting motorbike and just seeing the town in general. One of the owners, Noom, took a group of us bowling and showed us some of the best food in town. Beware.. you will not want to leave! I sure didn't. Thanks again SpicyThai, I will definitely come back!

You meet a lot of nice travelers, but some of the staff is not friendly at all (even rude, no smiles), the place is not clean (specially the bathrooms) and I woke up in my bed full of bugs...

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank you for the comment which means we need to work harder to reach the expectation of the tourist. We really apologize that we are a small hostel with also small amount of staff sometime our staff are not always in the very good mood. We are quite certain that they are not that bad unless you do not have a chance to communicate with them, they are a very well train English speaking person with positive character. There will be a lot easier if our guest tell us directly what is the problem which our staff will try their best to sort it out. Have a nice trip and we are sorry again that we are not quite good enough like what you imagine. Spicythaibackpackers

This is a family run hostel in a gated community. Staff are very helpful, there are also several sitting areas for people to hangout. The bunk beds in the rooms were a bit scary there was a bar on one side but the other was supposed to be against the wall;however they did not quite fit into the room and left just enough space for someone to roll off. The heater in the bathroom for the girls dorm was broken, there were also red ants in the shower and small ants in the closet.

The only bothersome part of this hostel was the bathrooms. Other than that, that I highly recommend it. Noom, the owner, is awesome and a plain nice guy. Very very cool peeps. I was at first concerned about the fact that it's so far out of the city center but you can take take the pseudo public transportation pickup trucks for 20 baht. Also, there's a really trendy area right near the neighborhood that has all that you need. Very easy to meet people too. I liked it and would definitely repeat.

Best place to stay in Chiang Mai! Feels like home. Met tons of other travalers there. The atmosphere is just great. Very good dorms, as well. The staff is amazing. Cheers, Nom!!

I arrived at Spicy Thai a solo traveller and my first time visiting Thailand. STB made me feel really welcome, I met so many people and its excellent for socialising. There is a new activity organised every day - including Noom's (now famous) Jungle Trek aka Jungle HIKE which was awesome. I stayed for 4 nights and didnt want

Everything about this hostel is great except the location. However, it's easy enough to hire a tuk tuk or rent a motorbike to get around.

What can I say best hostel I've stayed in during my trip in Asia! Really clean, friendly staff, great atmosphere! They have some kind of activity every few nights and sometimes if we were just heading into town in the evening they volunteered a lift! Great night life but if you want to stay in for the night, or for a hangover day the flatscreen and DVDs are ideal! Breakfast included is great, very social too! If you want location in town it's not for you but it's a nice easy walk! Loved it xx

A really fun hostel with staff that take you out almost every night. Quite a small hostel which means its really easy to meet people and the hostel offers free internet and breakfast.

Honestly one of the coolest hostels I have stayed in around the world. Spicy Backpackers are AWESOME! The owner Noom took me and a friend on a scooter trek on the back roads to Pai, which is more than good customer service. I had so much fun.

Staff was amazing organizing daily trips and activities for guests. Lots of fun playing drinking games and meeting new people. Two days turned into a week then another few days on my return. Thanks Kid, Doom and Pong!

Good place to stay, but not a close walk to the Old City. I rate walking highly, so my review could be construed as harsh. Helpful staff and clean, solid dorm rooms.
