The location is not so good. The female staff were not friendly and helpful. The number of toilet and shower room is not enough so always someone was using.

Staff all pleasant. Great building in excellent location, lovely walk through gardens to city in 25mins or tram stop right outside. Rooms very nice but HOT! Good facilities, private shower rooms and good kitchen with free tea, coffee, pasta, rice. Quiet hostel, only 1 or 2 in 6 bed dorms. Nice areas for socialising but NOT a party hostel. Bit OTT with some of the rules but probably to retain peaceful reputation. Only downside was the massive price increase while the Open was on :(

Don't use the offer to a pick up shuttle bus from the airport to the hostle via 'jetstar'. Worst company ever. Read the reviews on google. The hostel is very nice but you need to walk about 30min to get in to the city centre.

This place is awesome down to a tee! My girlfriend and I's only complaint was that the double rooms should have their own bathroom as one bathroom per wing of four rooms or so is pretty constricting. But overall a great place to stay and good value for money.

Its a really quiet Hostel. Many Old People. So if youre interested in a quiet place where you can stay mostly on your own-this is the place to stay! It's really clean and really safe. But if you're interested in meeting a few people especially backpackers, It's better to choose another Hostel!

Good place, comvenient to get to the city. Clean room, a little difficult to use the bathroom because you have to wait if there is someone else using it. DO NOT TRY TO BORROW THE HAIRDRIER! Because they will give you a hairdrier that cannot use in their hotel, and when you want to return the hairdryer and get your deposit back, the staff's temperament is very terrible! Some staff is nice and will recommend you a travel to the popular place.

Hostel and facilities are very, very old. Not all toilets were working. Also, there are far to view facilities (toilets and showers) for the number of guests. When someone is taking a shower, you can't use the toilet. As the building is old, walls are thin, could not sleep due to other televisions and conversations all two nights. People staying here do not adhere to the rules (as opposed to an YHA hostel for example), and of course there's no staff at night to enforce them. But location good!

The lady at reception was not very friendly at all. Had to tell her at least three times details on check in and out which seemed to put her off. I tried to take a mountain bike (with box)t to my room which she wouldn't allow, but didn't offer any other place I could put it! Bathrooms were too few (had to go No 2 really bad and to do laps around hostel to find a toiiet that wasn't being used! The bike i needed to pack but sneaked it past reception anyway, haha!

Rooms were too small and too hot. Mattresses were uncomfortable and old and staff sometimes not really friendly. Had to leave the kitchen at 9pm and couldnt go in anymore after that. Water was running all the time- not really ecological.

The staff is very rude. The rooms stink and there is no way at all to meet people. The staff do not provide enough information for travel and the land lady just keeps shouting on them. To use their computers you need to pay $3 per hour and it is basically not very close to anything touristy. Also, there is a limit to free wi-fi that you can use! The free breakfast is one of the most average that i have seen. Definitely not worth the money.

Staff unfriendly and rude. Smelly bathrooms with a lot of water damage. Bathroomdoors doesn't lock. Never seen them vaccume the floors. But worst: THE STAFF!!! HOW UNFRIENDLY CAN THEY GET!? Never stayed at a place with this rude people who takes forever doing anything and are more likely to ignore you the help you.

The location was nice, close to Botanics and the tram stop. The breakfast described on this site was rarely fully available. Very few bathrooms, one with no lock and very dirty! Mostly nice staff (Taiwanese? girls particularly) however many had limited local knowledge and could not give helpful information. No lockers in rooms. Rules plastered on signs EVERYWHERE. At least it was quiet.

Nice cozy hostel. A bit far from the city center but there is a direct tram going there. Some of the staff are really nice. Best are very comfortable even if it is not the newest bed. Good value for money but would look for something closer if I could have afford it.

I stayed in this hostel only for two nights. I booked a double room and it was so cozy. Just great! It´s definitly worth the money. It is clean and we had our own fridge, microwave, water boiler, fan and heating system which was helpful to us. There are not so many bathrooms on the different floors so sometimes you have to wait before you can take a shwoer. but to me it was no problem. If I come back to Melbourne I will stay there again.

Good location. Pretty average as far as hostels go. I was disappointed to find that the free internet that was advertised was limited to 100gb a day, and when we arrived at 7pm for the 'free pasta/rice' we found that it was all gone. When we went to the desk to ask for more we were told that once its gone its gone. Maybe a better way to ration the free food would be in order, since we arrived at a normal dinner time and found nothing left.

Many thanks to Hannah for helping us when we tried to contact next accommodation.

I had a very bad time staying at St. Arnauds. If you arrive after 9 pm there should be keys left for you in the safe to get into your room. There was nothing, cause they check your credit card 24hours before arrival - if there is no money on it, they just don't leave any keys for you! I had to sleep on the couch in the TV room and there was no excuse nor did I get a Refund. Staff are young incompetent backpackers. I was very disappointed. Location is pretty far from town. Dont go with Jetbus!
