very good location. great breakfast. the double room was tiny though.
I usually like St Christopher's hostels, but this was was just okay. Checked in very late (around 3:30am) which they were notified about. When we arrived, there was a man sitting behind reception on the phone but said he didn't work there and didn't know where the reception guy had gone. He was so rude and the whole situation was a bit dodgy. The rooms were small, no lockers, but the showers weren't bad. Basic breakfast - good location.
The hostel was located literally right across the street from the train station which was very convenient. The staff were very friendly and accommodating especially when I was allowed to switch into the same room as my friends.
Nice hotel, but they should have more plugs in the room.
I was quite impressed by really great (and free!) breakfast served at 7 am :) The staff was very friendly, location excellent! The room and bathroom facilities were not exactly new, but it was generally ok. I would say that it would be great to add some lockers, shelves or anything to keep your belongings in the room, because we generally had options - on the floor or on the bed, which is not convenient.
No wifi in the rooms, when we got into our room it was a disaster. Lift was slow but you could beat it up if you took the stairs. Breakfast like everywhere else's but very crowded barely any place to move so try not to spill coffee on someone. The bars that it in between are excellent definitely would recommend them since it's the only place you get wifi.
The only thing that I would change is the smell of your soap in the bathrooms. Overall it was an excellent weekend and I would definitely stay there again.

The St. Christopher's brand has done really well for themselves. I've stayed at other locations of their's in London and Paris and have been very pleased at both. The facilities are nice and the staff is always very helpful. I did find that the Edinburgh location wasn't as well set up to meet people. The chill room was always completely quiet, and the bar area was mixed with locals and guests, but you didn't know who was who. I had fun though and Edinburgh is beautiful.
We enjoyed our time at st christopers inn, the room was nice and the place was clean. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. We did have a problem using our pre-purchased breakfast coupons. The waitstaff (girl with shoulder length light brown hair and glasses) in the bar, did not speak to us even when we thanked her for placing the condiment tray on our table. Total waste of 3.95 pounds times 3 of us. Would not ever pre-purchase meals again... Too much trouble with untrained staff.

Nice hostel with a great location and atmosphere.
Fun hostel, bar downstairs was always lively and good to meet people. Only downside was there were no cooking facilities aside from a microwave. That said the food discounts at bellushis are good value anyway!
This is a perfectly fine hostel but after staying in the Barcelona St. Christopher's, I was expecting slightly more. Upsides: Great location, awesome bar with live music, averagely comfy beds, lockers under the beds, lockers in the chill out room that you can add your own code to and rent for an hour to a day at a time, free breakfast (yummy too) and free laundry service after 8pm. Downsides:mixed bathrooms and showers, showers aren't in a private room. There was no hot water when I showered.
Large hostel in a pretty good location between the new and old town, and just down the road from the central station. Could use a few more toilets and showers and wifi in the dorms. Breakfast was standard St Christopher's, but is free so always a nice addition.
Great hostel, fun environment, staff was friendly, location was perfect across the street from Edinburgh waverly train station, 5 minute walk to Edinburgh castle, royal mile, and grassmarket streets for restaurants and nightlife at the pubs and clubs.
Wifi connectivity was really poor in the common areas not to mention that there was no wifi in the rooms. The drain in our shower kept clogging up and water would not go down the drain. When we alerted this issue to management, they just told us to use the common area showers upstairs even though we paid extra to have an ensuite in our room. Other than that, great location next to the royal mile and all the sights. ALSO no free luggage storage which is a total bummer.
Only bad thing is that wifi doesn't reach rooms - otherwise tops!
Definitely one of the better hostels I've been too! It has a great atmosphere and hanging out in the bars was really fun, and what was even better was the fact that it was still quite in our room! This place is really close to everywhere, and the free breakfast was nice :)
St. Christopher's was dirty and the staff was not very helpful. It was a fairly large hostel, so you are not specifically helped or invested into. Also, the discounts advertised for the bar below are not as great as they seem and it remains fairly expensive. Storage under your bed (bring a lock!), but if you want to leave a bag during the day it costs. Granted, I stayed in a select room with a select (random) group of people, so my experience could differ greatly in another situation.
If they ask you to pay online before you arrive, that's a bad sign. Mould in the showers, Wi-Fi only in the chill out room, push button/timed showers, no kitchen, loud crappy cover bands at night. One girl reported her food had been stolen and the staff's response was, "Yea, I would keep food in that fridge." The place was disgusting. Only good things were free laundry (but only at night), and location.
