Rooms are dark, only one bathroom for 10 bed dorm, reception area not very welcoming. Should of booked me an airport bus but didn't - did get my money back though.

The rooms are good and you get free breakfast every day.. the bar is good fun and theres a wicked night for backpackers on the rooftop every friday which is the best night out i found! The staff were nice too and really helpful... i reccommended it to my friends :)

Staff are soooooo rude. Girl asked where I was from and I said I was Australian she made up a load of garbage story about them having a 7 night minimum (others had just checked in for 1 night). Literally refused to let me stay past the 2 nights I had booked. It's overpriced anyway and I was bitten by BUGS in bed. I met some cool people there but they need female only rooms as it was a bit much being only 2 girls in a room full of drunk guys and a mouse. Not enough lockers.

Thank you for your comments. Your reservation date is during our peak season and also the Australian Open, during this time we are extremely busy and unfortunately some times we are unable to let you stay past your booked dates due to availability. We apologise that you were bitten by bugs, our rooms have all been professionallly fumigated and we treat every report of bugs seriously and once notified we are able to deal with the situation straight away. We do have female only rooms here which can be booked upon request. We hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. Kind regards, St Kilda Beach House

This is perhaps one of the worst hostel stays I have ever experienced across my many years traveling across Australia, Asia and Europe. Not only was the cleanliness significantly below par, the music beat thumped through h walls well into the early hours of the morning. If these conditions were not enough, I was left with an unpleasant reminder of my stay at the St Kilda Beach House for a full week following, with a significant bite on my leg that led to an infection. I would not recommend this.

Thank you for your comments. Our rooms are cleaned daily by a professional cleaning company. We have recently just employed a new company and our rooms are now of an even greater standard, they are also checked by staff everyday. We are an entertainment venue and on the weekends noise from our public bar and two nightclubs can travel into the rooms. We apologise that you were bitten during your stay here. Our rooms have all been professionally fumigated and we deal with any reports of bugs straight away as soon as we have been notified. We hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. St Kilda Beach House

We (3 girls) stayed in a dorm with 7 guys who were living there, when we went in to the room we didnt know which beds were free as the linen from the previous persons was still on the beds. We had to go to reception with the dirty linen and get new linen and make the beds ourselves. The room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, the smell was horrific (think dirty feet and rotten eggs). Couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Hi Sinead. Thank you for your comments. Sorry that the linen was still on the beds from previous guests when you arrived, guests are to bring down their linen upon checkout. Unfortunately we cannot make the beds for all of our guests and we provide everyone with new fresh linen on check in. The rooms are cleaned daily by professional cleaners. We have just recently changed our cleaning company and the rooms are now of an even greater standard. We apologise for your friend being woken up by another guest in that way, unfortunately that situation is out of our control and when possible we are always happy to move guests to another room if requested. We hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. Kind regards, St Kilda Beach House

This hostel was so bad we actually left 1 night before we were due to check out, Even though we had paid upfront. Rooms are dirty, Kitchen is too small and filthy. there is a nightclub on the roof that becomes the staff's priority once it opens and its like the hostel guests are an inconvience. Terrible terrible place.

Hi David, thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear that you didnt enjoy your stay with us. We have professional cleaners that clean our rooms daily, we apologise that you were unhappy with the state of your room. Our backpacker kitchen is cleaned twice daily and we do our best to maintain standards. As for Next Level Rooftop this part of our business is run by promoters. Accommodation stafff are responsible for the Reception area only and we are sorry that you were left feeling second priority to the Nightclub guests. We hope that you enjoy the rest of your travels. Kind regards, St Kilda Beach House Staff

Really great stay, it was quiet in our room- although i can imagine some rooms get a lot of noise because of all the bars. It was cleaned every day and we even got an extra large room for the price of a normal one! Thumbs up! nicest hostel I've stayed in! and I've travelled quite a bit!

Essentially this is a nightclub with a hostel attached. The main problem is: any time there is a theme night on in the nightclub, any backpackers staying in the hostel are automatically expected to play "second fiddle" to the hallowed paying guests attending the club. the result is you're treated as a second class guest whilst at the same time being kept awake by the clubbers' partying. I've been told there are much better hostels than this one - I suggest you look for them.

Hotel Barkly/St Kilda Beach House is a Hostel and a Hotel, we also have a public bar and nightclub on site. We are sorry that you felt like you played 'second fiddle' to the guests attending the nightclub - our venue is very busy on the weekends and the nightclub patrons do take priority for lift access where in-house guests are able to also use the stairs. As our venue is busy and due to the bar and nightclub on site the noise can travel through the rooms. We are an entertainment venue and therefore it may not be suitable for some travellers.

There were some bugs in the bedding which caused rashes to all of us who stayed.

We have had all our rooms professionally fumigated and have not heard of any recent cases of bed bugs. If guests feel like they have come across this situation we hope that they approach reception and advise us so that we can help them and deal with the situation appropriately and effectively.

It seemed like the staff didn't wanted to work there. To much noise. Party in the bottom and party on the top. I reckon it's a perfect place for kids who just want to be wasted all the time, but for others, not so good. I had a hard time sleeping on the first floor because of the bar and all the noise.

Hi Eirin, thank you for your comments. We are an entertainment venue and on the weekends both our busy public bar and rooftop nightclub are open which can lead to noise travelling down into the rooms. We are sorry that you had difficuluty sleeping, if reception is made aware of any issue then we will always do our best when possible to allocate another bed in a different room or level. We hope that you enjoy the rest of your travels. Kind regards St Kilda Beach House

Being put in a room with people who had been staying there for weeks and had made the place filfthy was not something we enjoyed at all, probably something they could work on is keeping an eye on the cleanliness of the rooms which house backpackers for long periods of time and maybe actually cleaning the bathrooms? Also we were overcharged $120 AU because the room rates went up on our second night there, but instead of just charging us the extra $16 dollars we were charged for two extra nights.

the hostel was great! They were very accommodating with storing our luggage. The bar has amazing food and a great atmosphere!\ The only downside was that the room was between the bar downstairs and rooftop club upstairs so it was noisy and hard to sleep with the different music coming from both sides.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay... we do take pleasure in accommodating our guests in everyway possible and luggage storage is always available for our guests. Our venue is an entertainment venue and during the weekends our public bar is busy where the noise may filter through the rooms.

The noise was unreal from downstairs you could hear music untill the early hours! and the bouncers in the pub down stairs were very unreasonable!

On the weekends we are an entertainment venue and our public bar is busy during this time where the noise may filter up to the rooms. We are very sorry that you found our security staff unreasonable as i am unsure of the circumstance but they are constantly ensuring that all our patrons and guests are safe within our venue and everyones best interests are at heart.
