I visited during Jazz Fest where there was availability and economy. The dorm was cluttered but normal for standard dorm acommodations. Magazine street is great, and the St Charles streetcar only minutes away. The building is an old orphanage with history and character. Give it a try.

I had read a lot of bad reviews of St.Vincents but as I expected they were made by people whose expectations are much too high. St.Vincents is not a 4 star hotel. It is a beautiful old building in a great neighbourhood for a very low price. There is some give and take in a situation like that. It is an old building and rooms are decorated sparingly. You don't have someone cleaning your room for you everyday and the sheets don't match. I was glad to take that deal.

Staff was very friendly. However, all the paperwork is still done per hand. They did not have any records of me paying a night in advance although requested from me by St. Vincent\\\'s Guesthouse per email (in order to keep my reservation). Staff made a calculation error, charged my credit card incl. the night I already pair for. However, the refund is not on my account as of today (6 days after check-in). Will wait another day, then call the guesthouse.

I had never stayed in a hostel proior to visiting St. Vincent's, and I was pleasently surprised. It was by no means a 5 star hotel, but the room was clean, the staff was friendly, and it was only a 20 minute walk to the French Quarter (through a very nice neighboorhood). I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay in New Orleans.

this hostel is seriously worth five dollars p/p p/n. The staff were useless and didnt care about anything let alone guests needs, the linen was all stained, the rooms had plenty of insects and stunk, the doors were nearly falling off their hinges, on the second night about 10 gallons of water came falling through my ceiling all over my belongings, the staff gave me another crappier room but no cash back at all, 6 days after checkout they charged me extra cash for something we did not break.

This is by far the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. I was overcharged and the manager was off so I had to practically have a sit in to get it fixed. They advertise lockers, but no pack will fit. The mattresses were 4 inches thick laid across wooden slats.. and you are CRAMMED into a room. Did I mention the roaches? Do yourself a favor and book India House.

We rented a private room for Jazz Fest . It took 3 goes to find a room that had been made up and even then the place was dirty, there were cockroaches, dead and alive, everywhere. It was late so we decided to look for something else in the morning. We found something else and checked out. I asked for a refund for the extra nights we had paid for. I am still waiting... Worst hostel experience ever esp for $114 av/night (tax incl). I recommend you warn people about this place

Extremely shocked at the overall state of the place. Mold all over the place. No windows would open. People arguing early in morning. The Kitchen i was directed to use was a total disgrace, Very dirty, no supply's for cleaning. Staff friendly but not much help. In serious need of major renovations!! Smoke alarm beeping through night flat battery !! Would not recommend any one stay there!!

The hostel is not safe and the staff is neither courteous nor qualified. During our stay at St. Vincent’s Guesthouse, the following happened: 1. The hostel charged on my credit card an extra and non-agreed guaranty deposit before my arrival without asking my authorization; 2. They didn’t refunded my USD 20.00 key deposit in my check-out, as agreed in my check-in (I saw other guest complaining about the same thing) ; 3. In the bedroom, lights and shower were out of work and cleanness was bad.

The first night we stayed, the office was broken into and the records were lost. On departing; we were refused our key deposit!! The very hard woman said she would mail it to me.... ha!! My friends were overcharged and the woman would not admit it, and argued, and of course, also refused their key deposit too. I would not stay here again. No, no, no. Also, it is a 10 dollar cab ride from the french quarter.

I think that the place was not clean and not in a safe place. The staff was not so friendly.: they asked me 10 dollars for a copy of the key (they already had it) and refused to print me just one page for my check-in (they had the printer and i wanted also to pay but nothing),,,,They don't have a good security system: the entrance was open and anyone can enter and arrive until the door of your room...u can close of course the door but it is very easy to force them, because they are very old.

The rooms aren\'t that clean looked like everything had been washed, but hasn\'t seen a vacuum or mop in a while. The bathroom wasn\'t bad though. The staff was nice and the location is excellent with an affordable price that is hard to find in New Orleans!

If you\'re planning to go New Orleans, DO NOT GO to St.Vincent Guesthouse! I booked a room for 2 days but, when there,no rooms were available. 1st day - they made me sleep in a LOUSY Dorm. 2nd day-The day after, shocked, I checked out but they charged me also the second day. I\'ve never seen a bunch of employees so unprepared! About the Dorm: 1- there was a cat sat in a bed! 2- the mattress was too thin,I slept with a wood bar in middle of my back. 3- Seemed a jailhouse! 4- the dorm stinked

This place should be the last place you think of when coming to New Orleans. When I arrived the doors were locked. It was the middle of the nite and there was no one to open up the place. By luck some guy who happen to work there came by but he knew nothing of my arrival. So he looked for a room for me and found a large room filled with bunk beds. I couldn\'t sleep cause there were no clean sheets and the roaches were all over the place. The next day wasn\'t any better. This place is a roach motel

When we got to the hotel they said they had "plumbing issues" & did not have a room for us. The front desk clerk was completely unapologetic & not very helpful. We ended up having to pay higher-than-average rates at another hotel because we didn't have reservations elsewhere.
