It was a bit of a walk to French quarter but you can easily take the Magazine 11 bus. very easy and cheap. The room is high celling, pretty basic. I booked an ensuite for myself, hot water is working well and bed pretty decent. I think for the price that you pay for, it is worth it. Can't have it all and I've been to worst places.

We had reserved a room well in advance and when we arrived at the hotel the room was simply not available. We had to get a taxi at 1 am and look for a decent hotel instead.

The number of beds in a dorm mentioned at hostelworld did not correspond to the actual number.

I managed to pick up bed-bugs from this hotel, and bring them back to England with me! This has caused me a major inconvenience and expense, and had quite literally made my skin crawl! The place was disorganised and poorly run although the staff all seemed very friendly! I will not be visiting again!

I could not have been more disappointed with St. Vincent's Guesthouse. Even though I had an email confirmation with me, I was told that the guesthouse had "lost" my reservation and filled up, and I was rudely turned away. The facilities didn't even look that nice or clean, and it had a strange smell in the lobby. I was so deeply offended by the entire atmosphere that I'm glad I left and found somewhere else to stay.

Absolutely terrible service. I ordered the single room, but was forced to stay in the dorm section of the hotel as the hotel was overbooked. The hotel was dirty and the one of the beds was shaky (You can make one of bunk beds oscillate). They took around half to an hour to deal with paperwork. Hotel Price: They promised me refunds for overcharging me. It has been three weeks. No sign of the so called refunds due to the mistake on their part. Overall, it is a huge pain on the customers' part.

Horrible experience. I will not recommend it to anyone. I was not given the room I reserved, I was not informed that my room will not be available, and when I arrived I was sent on my own with a set of sheets, one towel and one piece of soap to make my own bed in a filthy room with bunk beds. No matter how much I complained, they did not even bother to reduce the $90 per night I was charged. Stay away from this place.

A pretty good room for a great price in a sweet neighborhood...oh and the building itself is gorgeous and has a fun history.

I originally booked a 6 bed shared room, so I was a bit confused when I received keys to a 14 bed dorm the first night. and the next day they were able to put me in a 4 bed room. Not a big problem for me, but some might not like it. Also, there was confusion about the price since when I booked it online I was told that I would only have to pay $45 dollars when I arrived and instead they charged $56. That said the staff was friendly and had good recommendations for things to do/see/eat.

Leery of evaluating the hotel industry, accustomed to having doors slammed in my face ringingly; my obsession usually is this is too good and I hope it isn't razed before I return. Thanks v. much. In the past I sensed within beautiful New Orleans had a sanctuary.

The hotel staff was amazing! Lenny was by far the best hotel staff I have ever met. Lenny really made my visit in New Orleans and St. Vincent a memorable and positive experience. If I was to revisit New Orleans one of my stops would be St. Vincent.

So appalled and astounded were my friend and I by this place that I felt compelled to write an entire blog about it (http://uk.myspace.com/misskitschykat/blog/546809877) In brief, this is the filthiest, shabbiest, most run down hostel I have ever stayed in. The entire place should be condemned and the owner arrested. On the plus side, the staff are absolutely delightful. If you have an exceptionally strong stomach and a perverse sense of adventure, you might actually enjoy it here. We did!

good staff, but laissez faire w/respect to basic hygiene. beautiful property but much neglected. leaks, mold. primitive. NO head space for lower bunks. that said, it was not unpleasant if you could overlook the trash and dirty linens. much cheaper than anyplace else i could find. rented a bicycle nearby at 'a musing bicycles', owned by nice peruvian guy. rode all over town, literally. proved to be a life saver with conference in the Quarter. many ethnic restaurants up Magazine, bus at corner.

Staying at St. Vincent's Guesthouse was fun. We met a bunch of people from around the world. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. There's a great coffee shop located right across the street. This location of New Orleans is very historical and beautiful.

I definitely thought we got what we expected. We opted to stay in the dorms. About 30 or more beds between two rooms, and only two showers. Not ideal but very much worth the price. Clean towels were available to shower and we received clean bed linens. It was a bust weekend because of St. Patrick's Day so there were things everywhere and it was pretty dirty. For $18 a night, it was worth it. Lenny was so so so friendly. Really nice guy to talk to and very helpful.

First of all, this place is really dirty. We found 3 socks and 1 t-shirt under the bed. They just don't clean the room properly. Second, there is a lot of bugs there, i don't know which kind, but we got bitten 8-10times at least in 2 nights. Third, they charge you half your stay on your credit card at the moment you booked of Hostelworld. I never stay any guest house or Hostel do that. They also charged me 30 Us $ and they could not explain why. This is really a bad place to stay.

The building is actually really nice and full of character. The towels were dirty, I had a white towel with lipstick on it. The clear pool on the pictures was green and served as a pond now, filled with fish. The staff on the night of the checkin were really friendly, when checking out the lady was incredibly rude. So that averages it out. It's a long, long walk to French Quarter, too. Wifi reception was poor, could not get it in my room.

I've stayed in dozens of hostels in many different countries, and St Vincent has to be one of the worst. It's old and dirty, you have to share the showers with too many people, they canceled my private room reservation saying my credit card purchase via hostelworld didnt work (I booked 8 days ahead, but they never sent a message to say the payment didnt go through, so my girlfriend and I ended up sharing a dorm with a bunch of agitated spring breakers). Apart from that, it's pretty decent

We were 7 people, 2 guys and 5 girls, and booked 2 beds in a 6-bed male dorm and 5 beds in a 6-bed female dorm. In the end they put us girls in a 8-bed dorm and the guys in a 18-bed (!!!) dorm. However, we asked them if we could just all sleep in the 8-bed dorm, which was fine in the end. But their management is chaotic, they nearly put another group into our dorm. The rooms were also quite dirty, same as the linens...
