The Staff was wonderful and very helpful with recomendations for the area. But I did witness a few times that they are very unorganized (missing room key money, rooms not booked right, billing not put through right the 1st time.) The building itself is gorgeous from the street, but the interior is in very bad need of a deep clean and minior repairs, ie: carpets are thread bare in high traffic areas, doors dont close properly, old furnature, stains and cracks in the walls and paint.

The hostel was too far in any direction to walk anywhere interesting. Needed bus passes everyday. But the worst was the cleanliness, We had a double private room and our bathroom was disgusting, sink grunge and thick soap scum in the smallest hobbit sized shower ever. (i'm a short 5"5 and the shower head only went as high as my shoulder) There was a bottle cap lid in our "freshly made" bed. The bathroom in the main hallway was just as gross. For $10 more stay at a hotel off hotwire in the CBD

Didn't have a room available that we had reserved, but gave us a better room without charging extra. Staff was very knowledgable, friendly, and helpful.

Its only a 10 minutes walk to the french quarter. Very nice building, but rooms could be a bit cleaner. Only WiFi, no PC-based internet.

it is a nice hotel for average money! internet promised a morning tea and swimming pool but they were absent . I used a canteen in cross of street. but the room was nice , clean, quiet, very normal inhabitants, mostly students, tourists, some nice people. very friendly people around, and very close to all attractions of New Orleans - aquarium, French quarter, city center. I was to happy to live in that hostel

I booked a private suite, but when I got there, I was told that the suite I booked was no longer available. They tried to offer me dorm accommodations at the same price I was going to pay for the private suite. The staff was nice about it, but I really would have appreciated a call telling me the suite was no longer available so I could have tried to find another hostel at a reasonable hour. A discount for the inconvenience would also have been appreciated. They also would not refund my deposit.

Believe every review you read here. We arrived and were denied our reservation for a private double room. The front-desk attendant was trying to laugh at me. It was not a laughing matter. Not wanting to have to look for another hotel for the night, we agreed to stay in the dorms. But, we were charged the same price for the private room!!! We were told that it is "hotel policy". Screw your hotel policy. Don't stay here. Boycott this hotel.

Location is quite bad, cca. 2-3km from the Bourbon street (on the other hand, there is public transport quite near). Cleanliness of men\'s dormitory was poor, esp. bathroom.

I found a lot of insects in my room. Maybe the room should be clean more carefully!! But the money is reasonable.

Walking down the hallway toward the room, we felt like we were in a horror movie because it was dark and obviously rundown, and the room itself was not so different. It smelled musty and of stale cigarettes. The sheets didn't appear clean (we slept on our sleeping bag instead). The carpet hadn't been vacuumed. There was no window to open and the air conditioner wasn't operable so it was very stuffy. It was very dark because only one light worked. A very unpleasant stay.

I wouldn\\\'t know if this place was good or not because when I went to check in they told me that they always overbook their rooms because sometimes people cancel or don\\\'t show up and now they didn\\\'t have any rooms. They sent me to another hostel in New Orleans so I read reviews online which described the place as a prostitute hot bed and disgusting which it was. So I had to spend the next 3 hours looking for a hotel. The staff was not helpful at all and I can\\\'t believe that they didn\\\'t call

The hostel itself, as a place to sleep, was great. Location wonderful, a beautiful old building, great place to stay location-wise, and the building itself had great character, as well as the surrounding neighborhood. The staff, however, was absolutely incompetent. I could get nothing done whatsoever from them when the manager wasn\'t present, and she was only available in the morning hours. She was great, but all of her staff was able to do nothing for us, and was very unhelpful.

Gorgeous old asylum building but a little creepy. Get a room not a dorm; Rooms have air conditioning and their own bathrooms, cleanliness tolerable but not the best, bedbug free but I glimpsed a cockroach, great location that's walking distance to downtown french quarter and garden district, cute coffeeshop across the street, overall very pleased with my stay!

This is the most poorly managed hostel that I\'ve ever stayed in. We booked a private room for 3 people in advance&paid it upfront, but when we got to the hostel they didn\'t have the room, didn\'t apologize&only offered us to stay in a 20-people dorm for essentially the same price that we\'d have spent on a private room. Staff was not very professional. The refund of money was chaotic. We had to find another hotel for the 1st night, then luckily got our room for the 2nd night.

Dirty...but good location. More expensive than other hostels in the area for a dorm bed I heard. This place would be nice if someone took care of it...Also, make sure you have a taxi number on you if you have to get an early train or plane- there is no 24 front desk clerk.
