While the owner and Eddie were very helpful, the other staff didn't know much and were not at all helpful. The Internet was not working for most of the stay. For the prices, even during carnival I would have thought more should have been provided. They seemed on skeleton staff the whole time and were unaware of an extra person staying on or an extra person in the room one night.

Great hostel, I would stay there again. Staff were really friendly and helpful, it was easy to get to different parts of the city from Botafogo and the neighboorhood is also great.

Very good located in the Botafogo neighborhood. Very safe place. To women run the business (mother and daughter), but maybe the daughter should improve her "hospitality" . Guests are customers and customers bring money!

I had an amazing time at Stand Fast, and will definitely be back in the future. The hostel was clean, safe and very friendly. The location and atmosphere, in conjunction with the friendly and open nature of the staff ensured I settled in very quickly and had a great time. Breakfast was good, showers were both a decent temperature and pressure, and the only downside was an internet fault (no fault of the hostel), but the staff recommended me an internet cafe nearby without hesitation. Thanks!

Great hostel, very clean, it feels like home. The staff is very helpful, they will give you every information you want/wish. You can not bring your own alcohol, but it is not a problem, since the bar is very good and the drinks are not expensive. Location of the place is good, it is near metro, bus stations, banks... The owners really try hard and they talk to guests a lot, which is really nice. Great place to stay!

Stand Fast is in a beautiful building in Botafogo and is close to the metro, which can easily get you to the beach or hillside neighborhoods of Santa Teresa or Lapa. The hot shower was the best that I had in Brazil and the common areas are very nice. Each dorm bed had their own plugs and lights, which was a nice touch, I thought. I would recommend this place and would stay here again! Only downside is that the staff may end up waking you up in the middle of the night to sleep in the empty beds!

Despite some dirty backpackers, this hostel was clean!! And had very good cocking facilities. Not the best location, nothing happens in the neighbourhood. You always have to travel to go to the sights.

The Stand Fast is a very cheap hostel. That is the only good thing about this place. That, and Rodrigo Perez, a very helpful and nice guy at the reception. The rooms and toilets are dirty. The bunk beds are unstable and dangerous. In our room one got broken and the guy sleeping upstairs had to sleep on the floor for three nights. The breakfast was the poorest we had in Brazil. There was a bar but to get someone to serve you was nearly impossible.

Owner Comment (Show)
We are sorry to hear that your time with us was unpleasant, however all rooms are cleaned once a day, and bathrooms are cleaned at least 2x a day. Yes it is true, and unfortunately one of our beds did break during your stay, but as you may have noticed we tired to fix everything as quickly as possible. In regards to the breakfast I am sorry that you found coffee, tea, milk, juice, bread, cheese and ham or eggs, 2 different types of fruit, and 2 different kinds of cereal poor. We do appreciate your input as we are constantly trying to iprove. Cheers!

Excellent hostel, in a safe trendy area of Rio. Centrally located (can use the metro or bus to get anywhere). The room was clean and breakfast was good. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm. Use of the aircon upon request is a bit odd but staff were accomodating and always happy to answer questions (althought night staff do not speak english). Booked many tours thru them (samba + Favela + football + transfers to airport) and was all very easy and had an amazing time. Defintiely recommend this hostel & Rio.

Great hostel! The staff is very polite and helpful, the atmosphere is nice and the location is good. Botafogo has many bars, restaurants and shops, and you can easily get to the touristic points by metro or by bus. Breakfeast is ok, cleanliness as well. I would definately stay there again and recommend it to other friends!

Stand Fast Hostel is a safe, fun and friendly place to stay in Rio. The staff are helpful and enjoy having a good time. The hostel is a great place to meet people, but is also quiet enough for a good sleep and the facilities function properly and are clean. Location in Botofogo is also excellend, with just a 2 minute walk to the nearest Metro and essentials like a Super Market.

I had a wonderful stay here. I felt comfortable, safe, and had a fun time meeting great people in the lounge/dining room area. The kitchen is easy to access and was always a popular place to whip up a quick meal. Only complaint would be the breakfasts - could have been much better, but at least there was a little fruit and bread and cheese and coffee. The staff were all great and really accommodating!
