Its a simple hostel no getting around that. Bathrooms could do with a good clean, but its warm and dry and so central that for the price you cant really complain. Plus is you arrive before check in they wil let you secure you bags in a locker so you can go out and enjoy Amsterdam.

This place is surprisingly druggie free for being so close to the red light district. It is also VERY close to everything. Once you get your bearrings its a shock how close it is to the main sights, AND a shopping street AND a movie theatre. It might not be as clean as it can, but its not disgusting, I would recommend flip flops to go into the bathrooms and showers. The breakfast is good. You do however have to pay to use the internet and to store your luggage.

the coffeshop wich is near the hostel is much better to stay in! there is no bar in the hostel:( though mixed doorms for 20 are excellent for socializing;) It was clean for several days). The best time to have a shower is 15 minutes past 11 am or later. The staff was helpful sometimes. I would recommend to stay here for a day and than move to stayokay in vondelpark! This stayokay is really worth to spend a week or much more.

In fact I couldn't get my room because they didn't have my reservation but the girl at the front desk found me an other room in like 5 minutes. The only problem was that the room was in the Hans Brinker Budget Hostel and it's a bad place to stay because of the room and the bad location. It was a bad night...

Good hostel, great staff! The hostel felt quite secure. Bummer you have to buy a lock for the lockers upstairs or put a returned deposit on a locker all the way in the basement. Internet was expensive, while other similar expense hostels offer free internet. No place to really socialize and meet other people either. Cleaned daily, smelled good. Helpful staff for when you show up with no plans of places to see or for giving directions or general ideas.

I ended up not staying here. Indeed, it is very institutionalized. It felt like jail for some reason. Bathrooms stink. Staff a bit rude. I would not recommend this. I recommend Budget Hotel Tourist Inn in Spuistraat. I didn't even feel bad paying for this hostel and not having stayed there. It was actually a relief.
