About Suizenji Youth Hostels
Suizenji Youth Hostel is the perfect place for backpackers to stay to explore Kumamoto, the capital of Kumamoto prefecture and the major city on Kyushu's west coast. We are just 5 minutes away on foot from Shin Suizenji Station. Located between Kumamoto Station and the Japanese-style landscape garden known as Suizenji Jojuen. It is easy access to sightseeing including one of Japan's largest, Kumamoto Castle. If you visit in summer, you will have a chance to experience very dynamic Japanese-style festivals.

Start off your sightseeing by visiting the symbol of Kumamoto, Kumamoto Castle. It is one of the largest and most famous castles in Japan, originally built in 1607 and mostly reconstructed during the 1960s including a modern museum inside. It is located in the center of Kumamoto City, a 5 minute tram ride or a 25-35 minute walk from the JR Kumamoto Station. Within a walking distance of just 15 minutes from the youth hostel is the Suizenji Jojuen. This spacious, Japanese-style landscape garden was built about 350 years. Stroll along its circular path and enjoy the miniature reproduction of 53 post stations of the Tokaido, the main road which connects Edo (Tokyo) with Kyoto during the Edo era, including Mt. Fuji. If you're in Kumamoto during August, donft miss the summer festivals including the Hinokuni Festival and the Ezuko fireworks. Kumamoto's autumn starts with the traditional Fujisakimiya Festival held in September. If you want to experience art, there is the Kumamoto Prefectural Art Museum within the vicinity of Kumamoto Castle and the Kumamoto International Folkcraft Museum, just 10 minutes by bus from the Kotsu Center.
