I stayed in this hotel with my mum during the winter holidays. The stay in Istanbul was a wonderful and authentic experience and SUR hotel contributed to our enjoyment and comfort. It is really very well located: just five min from the Blue Mosque. Despite the vicinity to the city centre, the surroundings were very quiet and safe and only the cry of seagulls was heard (which is one of the characteristic sounds in Istanbul for me). The staff is absolutely brilliant and helpful. an exc. choice!!!

It may at the bottom of a hill, but Hotel Sur is at the top of my list of reasonable accommodation in Istanbul. The staff really makes you feel at home, virtually hovers to take care of you. The room was very nice and lacked only an extension cord to get the hot water kettle to run. I ran it anyway. I am sure by now it is taken care of. A PC is always available for free. Breakfast is very nice on an enclosed terrace that views the Bosporus unobstructed. I highly recommend this guesthouse to all.

Staff are very helpful and friendly but the place is difficult to reach from the metro. Carrying luggage on the pavements down and up the hill is cumbersome. Rooms are very noisy on the street side and constantly people passing by and talking. Difficult to climb the stairs. We decided not to return.

Room was average but good enough for 2 night We had to leave at 3am and they made us breakfast for the road witch was really nice we used one of the staffs brothers travel agency "Volare travel" DO NOT USE HIM.......... He seem very nice and helpful but we had nothing but problems with the 4 day tour we booked with him, we were not the only ones who had problems, We meet 3 others on on trip who had booked with him. So look around but do not use Volare travel...

Excellent base for exploring Istanbul. Very friendly, helpful staff, decent location near Sultanahmet's tourist sites. Quiet street, lots of other hotels nearby, feels very safe. 5 mins from backpacker area and fun bars, but far enough for families etc to feel comfortable. Great air conditioning, en-suite shower, everything clean and new.
