It was a bit expensive but a good hotel with clean and quite rooms, free wifi and a nice meeting room to space out and talk. From the rooms and the roof terrace you have a good view on the Ganges

Very backpacker friendly, helpful staff and excellent location. However, the rabbits have long died and so they should not advertise them as hostel pets anymore!

The hostel was really nice and the staff very friendly. The rooftoop is the best part of the hostel, with the best view of the city. And the food is amazing there!

I ended up loving Varanasi and extending my stay for 5 days at Suraj guest house. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, and a great place to meet and mingle with other travelers. That being said, it was Holi week, so the rates were (presumeably) a bit higher than usual (about 800 rs for a one night stay), and finding accommodation anywhere else was hit or miss. One thing I will say is to avoid the tours the hostel provides, as they tend to be overpriced for what you get. CHECK YOUR ROOM FIRST!

We enjoyed our stay at Suraj guesthouse, especially the staff and the location. The rooftop also has a beautiful view of the river. We recommend this guesthouse, but we didnt really have any hot water in the shower.

Excellent hostel centrally located in Varanasi. Staff are extremely helpful. Free wifi was a bonus after coming from Delhi, a few cleanliness issues and powercuts but compared to some placed I stayed these were minor. A great hostel, highly recommended!

Don't stay at this place!!! We booked a private room ensuite and when we arrived they told us the old story of a sick traveller staying in our room and we were accomodated in a double with shared bathroom. The bathroom was dirty and smelled and without hot water. We left the next morning to the nearby Puja Guesthouse (not being fancy, is a much better option, specially for the rooftop terrace and hot water). Then they told us they mixed up the bookings. The airport pick up was expensive (double)

The best guesthouse in India. The owner was the honest man in India, helpful and so nice. The guesthouse is just a 5minutes from the river, the rooms are clean and so nice, they have really HOT water and HOT shower and fast wifi. The only problem is that is a bit complicate to find from the main street, but you can ask. I found a man that he brings me to the guesthouse just for help me. Really good experience in Suraj.

First stay in India with low expectation, but tks to that we were impressed. Staying here was a great chance to experience Varanasi by going along the dirty but colorful and atmospheric alleys. The family (staffs) was friendly and helpful. We were offered only 3 rooms in stead of 4. In compensation, the traditional night performance was over expectation. Overall, it was a nice stay if excluding cleanliness (as a Varanasi characteristic).

The Suraj was a lovely family home. The hot water worked, the internet/wireless worked and the general feel was great. Everyone seemed happy. The place wasn't as tidy or as neat as it could've been. The staff were accommodating and helpful when we wanted to change rooms. The guest house was well located to all you need to see and do in Varanasi. I would definitely stay again.

The staff here are great...they couldn't have been more helpful, and the guest house has a really friendly atmosphere. There's a central seating area, which meant we met several of the other people staying there at the same time as us. The location is also great, as its near to the river and to the main streets with shops, resturants etc. We's recommend getting one of the rooms with a private bathroom. Overall, a great place to stay in amazing Varanasi!

there were a lot of problems with power, water when I was there but the owner tried to keep on top of it and do what he could, it wasn't his fault. He's a decent guy and even took responsibility when a couple of guests got a bad sickness and had to go to the hospital. The place is in an insane tangle of temples and streets but you figure it out, more or less, in due time.

Great spot. Beds hard but that seems to be common in India and Nepal. Lovely family. Took tour with Mayure as we had limited time there..lovely guy paying for his way through college by taking guest on cheap tours. Was good and a great way to get your barrings in an often over-hectic and confusing place, and too see the major sites and experience the major things in your set time. Thanks!

I had a fantastic stay at the guest house, Prabhu and his family are very helpful and comforting, helping you out whenever they can, not trying to get every last rupee out of you. I would definitely come back here. If there's anything I would complain about its the noise at night, either its a puppy crying loudly at late hours or monkeys knocking things over or children shouting, so I'd definitely recommend earplugs, the beds are your standard indian guesthouse bed.
