Great hostel, right next to the beach! Only complaint was that we were given wrong info: told a taxi to the greyhound station would be $8 - $10 more like $70!!Great hostel, right next to the beach! If you don't want to stay in L.A and you love the beach, this is the PERFECT place. Friendly staff, very helpful and amazing location right next to restaurants/bars and my room overlooked the beach! Surf city is great, if u want to stay by the beach. Long way from downtown tho. Friendly staff, good amenities closeby and solid nightlife on wkends. The paintings on the wall reminded me of a 12yr olds bedroom, but other than that a great place to stay in LASurf city is great, if u want to stay by the beach. Long way from downtown tho. The FIRST time I stayed at Surf City I was GREATLY disappointed at how FAR I had to park from the hostel.
This time I found out about signs on the parking meters. I discovered the meters begin being enforced at 10am, but, I think because of street sweeping, there are signs at the BOTTOM of the meters telling you the days there is NO parking from 6am to 7am. So I could park MUCH CLOSER. YEAH!
I REALLY ENJOYED my second stay!

The location is perfect ( almost ON the beach, sourrounded with bars) and the people are very nice and friendly.
