Stay here every year for an annual event and the staff always look after us. PERFECT location (unless you want to sleep!!)

An awesome location!!! A bit of a frat atmosphere. But the location to the beach and bike path cannot be beat. I would stay here again. Jerry Frye Indiana

The location of this hostel makes up for everything else. It is literally right on the beach. We had booked a 6 bed female room and ended up in a 4 bed mixed dorm. Not only that, we awoke on our second morning to find a 5th person asleep on our (very tiny) room floor as the staff had nowhere else to put them. The wifi didn't work in the room and the power outlets hardly worked. The staff were friendly and helpful however and the atmosphere in the communal areas was fun.

It's right on the beach!! One of the cheapest places to stay in the South Bay. Hermosa Beach is very safe at night. Of course, it can be a bit noisy on the weekends. You'll also really need a car if you're staying here and want to see LA. If you just want to surf and enjoy the sun, then maybe you wouldn't need one. I definitely reccomend this hostel. I can easily imagine staying here again.

Hostel was in a great location (right by the beach), it was a little hard to find it at first though because the entrance is kind of hidden. The general security is low - anyone can walk up the stairs. There was sand on my mattress, but it's a beach town so I guess that's expected. Other than that it's a great hostel and I'd probably stay there again.

Location couldn't be better, for beach or night time party.Okay to stay, if don't own any thing of value. What ever expensive name brand clothes or accessories. 3 lockers pr room which there are six guests, luggage room open some times (people could grab what ever they want). Front door open. And no self locking door to your room, so the rooms are open usually, when other guest don't lock. Book the hole room if some one want to stay here.

Great place, great price, great location. No complaints!!

The only hostel downside was the inaccurate parking information at the website. The hostel doesn't have any parking area available. You have to park your car at public parking areas which are far away and have day and time restrictions. This information must be updated at the website so no future guest can be disapointed.

Great hostel! Good atmosphere and nice location in front of Hermosa Beach. The only problem is that Hollywood is too far away if you are using public transportation...

I liked the location and the staff was akso very nice. I liked it that you could rent a bike for only 10 dollars. When I was there the atmosphere was soso. Maybe it had to due with that I was there on a Monday and Tuesday.

Lovely hostel in the lovely Hermosa beach. Everyone's very chilled and friendly and there's art all over the walls. Our room had an ensuite but it wasn't cleaned very often but it was still ok. The free breakfast and cheap bike hire were definately bonus's cycled to Venice beach and Santa Monica but is 15miles each way so would recommend getting up early so as to be back before sunset. Takes about 2hours on public transport to Hollywood.

I traveled with a friend of mine for a weekend get away. We loved the location right in the middle of everything and our room overlooked the beach! The staff was very friendly. The area is a little noisy on the weekend but the price you pay for being walking distance to everything. We shared a room with 4 other travelers from Germany and Russia and loved getting to know all the many different worldly travelers that were passing through. This hostel and the people we met definitely made our trip!

I couldn't imagine a "better" place to experience the California Beach Life and positive vibes than at the Surf City Hostel in Hermosa Beach. Perfect Location and Staff! Odile the Manager and Fab her assistant are very caring and hard-working people who are there to assist travelers in every way they can! The hostel could use some updating and a few of the rooms can be noisy, but beyond that this is a Top-Notch Place in a Top-Notch Location wIth cool guests and a staff that cares! Cheers! Joe

Really good breakfast and a vibe atmosphere that needed to be lived!

There are MANY long term resident there which made it feel more like a homeless shelter more than a hostel. It's in a great spot if you are in Cali for the beach. Breakfast was cool and wifi was also pretty good. Definately not a party hostel and not that great if you are looking to meet people. It's also very far from the clubs. More long termers than actual travellers = bad/ depressing vibe, so keep that in mind...
