Nice place all in all. I would still highly recommend to keep the dog leashed or somethng: it peed in the hallway and the other night I found it from my bed with bugs... that was a total turn-off. The Wi-Fi was also annoyingly poor and wasn't working properly.

A fantastic hostle and a lovely host, willing to help with anything. Super clean, comfortable and it's a 10-15 minute walk into the centre. Better to get a scooter as you do need one to explore the area. We did some really nice snorkelling, ate great seafood in the marina and saw some lovely beaches.

A fine place to stay in Hualien for budget travellers. Staff was kind, location is fine, but not that easy to get there unless you have a google map.

This hostel is fine! I wouldn't stay too long, a few nights is OK! They do have cases of bedbugs (although I didn't get bitten). The staff is great, they helped us apply for permits to get into special areas in the gorge! Enjoy!

A typical backpacker style hostel with a pleasant atmosphere, good location near Central Haulien and the train station, and helpful English-speaking staff. The primary negative were the incredibly squeaky bunk beds in the dorm: the mattresses are comfortable, but anytime anyone moves, the entire dorm knows!

I really loved this hostel! I stayed here almost a week. The staff, Eva is the best! She will help you with everything. An other good part of this hostel is the common area! This is really the best common room I have been in the last 5 months of travel. Definitley recommend Formosa!

This place is great! I've been travelling all over Asia, and can tell this is an Oasis Hostel. I had a really nice stay, I met cool and friendly people at the bar and lobby area。Rooms are huge, they have a table and chairs so you can hang out inside your room or in the garden as you wish。Nice design of the bar/reception and lobby areas, couches available where you can hang out or work on your own thing。Staff performance and atmosphere are great, many dining options nearby, 10mins walk to train。

I enjoyed my stay at Surfing Formosa. The hostel is clean and comfortable, and the lounge area - including coffee and a bar - is a pleasant place to hang out. The location is OK; about a 15-min walk from the train station. Security was not good, though: the dorm room did not lock, and there were no lockers provided (that I saw); anybody could have walked right in.

Don't take people's things out of their packaging, leave no note, and then refuse to return it. It looks like STEALING. STEALING is bad. Just in case you didn't know. I cannot express how infuriated I was and continue to be.

I loved my stay at the Formosa Hostel - the people running the hostel were incredibly friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed a lot of good conversations with them at the downstairs bar/cafe. If you need to arrange any excursions to any of the local sightseeing areas the employees can assist you. It was also a great place to meet other travelers, as there is a general mood of openness and friendliness there. The rooms and bathrooms were basic and very clean and the bed was fairly comfortable.

I had a great stay during my time here, the owner and I exchanged conversations, she was super cool and down to earth. The hostel has a very homie feel to it, it was there 9 year anniversary when i got there and I was greeted with tea and chocolate cake! And to top it off that night was free of charge! Lucky me! :D

The workers were wonderful and a lot of fun to talk to. They also had cake and tea for their 9th anniversary, that was a major bonus :)

Very nice hotel with an awesome athmosphere. Lockers were missing but they had an amazing library. I guess it is the best hotel in hualien with very nice staff.
