There is an inch of dust on the underside of the bed. The maid works hard but has very little help from the staff who just call her Ayi or maid rather than by her name.
It's located near a great night market street, especially on weekends. Lots of people and stalls. Great experience. However, the hostel itself is quite a trek from the nearest bus stop, so if you have heavy luggage, the cobble stone roads becomes difficult. Also, the place is old, but that's ok. It's the fact that every surface is caked in a layer of dust and that there's mold everywhere that disgusts me. Also, sinks are broken, no hand soap, no toilet paper. AC turned off between 8am-5pm.
This hostel is a real gem. I've stayed many times since 2008, but this time, the owner lives away and the place is managed by nice but very young people. No one cleans. The shower door was totally broken, the shower was hanging off and the shower tray was black with dirt and the plug was so bunged with everyone's hair that the water didn't drain. The toilet bin wasn't emptied for a week.
The only problem with the hostel is that it would be difficult to find the first time as it is down a small alley.
