Swiss 1291 Hostel Reviews

Its an nice hostel right in the heart of Manhatten. Ten minutes by foot to Timesquare or to the Centralpark and that for an affordable price. Even in this central area the rooms were quiet. The area was very safe. I would take the Swiss1291 again.

No exactly the cleanest of places. The bathroom was dirty and there were pieces of paint falling off the ceiling. I also found a mousetrap in my room. That is not very comforting for a guest to see. That just makes me want to never stay there again.

Staff was great! They always try to listen carefully about my needs. My room constantly ungraded with same price of domitory. (Actually, I reserved as domi). I came to NY due to conference and spent great time with good rest in here. Def, I will be back here again!

Out of all the hostels that i have stayed at while traveling across North America this has by far been the worst. My expectations were higher with this hostel because i was paying so much more Smoke Alarm was disconnected. The dorm room was a block away from the main hostel, kitchen, lounge room and wifi The walls were VERY thin you could hear everything. I slept on a mattress on the floor. No quilt cover for the quilt. The cold water tap was stuck in the shower and needed extreeme force to turn

Loved the staff...super helpful, young, energetic and friendly. Fun, sort of themed rooms with all the amenities I needed! And the location was outstanding. Close to trains and just off 8th, which is full of great food, drink and shopping, but tucked into a sweet little neighborhood on 55th.

I really enjoyed my time there... The staff was very very friendly and helpfull! Girls who are working there were really nice! They put me on the first floor just because i had two big bags and handle on one of them was broken, so i dont have to carry it on the third floor! :) which made my day! :)) Location is really good, close to everything you need! My room on first floor was really small, but clean! I will definitely stay there again!

I think the staff should interact more with the customers, be more participative, improve the FUN of the place and arrange more interesting stuuf to do in the city, maybe plan parties, invite all the customers. This adds too much value to the business and the customer will like even more. I wouldn't stay again in this hostel, I would look for something more intersting, more fun!

Staff were nice especially Joe. But the bathroom didn't get cleaned once for the 10 days I was there- gross! And your bed is literally a matress on the floor- literally! Good location too, but no lockers or anywhere to keep your passport. No wifi which sucked too!

the rooms are great, the bathrooms were not clean on the first floor at all. def come back!

Fine for a lonely guy or a couple of young people. Best thing is the Great location, worst the spoiled toilets

Location is the best in town, which is what you pay for mostly. No breakfast, expensive rooms, small tight bathrooms and old. I recommend just because of the location, all the rest was average.

for a hostel it was astonishing clean - only some fungi in the shower. staff was flexibel and even printed me a boarding pass without extra charge. Their wifi works in the 2nd floor rooms, too, but don't expect high speed. No social events at this hostel, but location is best. around the corner on 8 ave lots of nice shops, food, delis..and central park as well as subway station. I booked 12-mixed-dorm and got 3-mixed dorm upgrade; nice.

The location is perfect, but the cleanliness could be better. The staff is sympathetic in general. I didn`t stay in hostel, only for sleeping...

Das Hostel ist in einem runtergekommenen Zustand. - Alles schmutzig, staubig ungepflegt. Obwohl wir es gemeldet hatten rannte dauernd aus dem Toilettenspuelungsgriff Wasser auf den Boden. Die Wandfarbe blaetterte in grossen Flaechen ab. Der Kuehlschrank im Zimmer war total vereist. - Wir haben mit eigenem mitgebrachten Putztuch den Boden aufgewischt - auch im Bad. Die Fensterbank abgewischt. Die Bettwaesche war voll schwarzer Haare So eine verschmutzte abstossende Unterkunft habe ich n

What a wonderful experience!! Everyone was very helpful throughout the entire stay ;-). I had a free upgrade on my room, a discount card was given to me upon check in for a local pub, and the front desk even printed out an email for me!! I will stay here every time that I go to NYC!! Thank you for the positive energy!!!

Amazing location,clean appartment but have to walk on the 5th floor for internet. Price is quite expensive and was expecting to have breakfast included!
