Thanks to the hostel owner Jun for going out of his way to help us and show us the best Shangri La has to offer. The best hostel we stayed in on our trip, just such a shame about the old town (or lack of it). Lake trip was beautiful.

Very nice place close to old town. you can feel traditional house in this hostel, cuz this building is 40 years old. But dont worry, the owner always keep clean and welcome everybody. The best thning about this hostel is food. Especially, yak meet burger, rice etc everyfood was great. If u pass through daocheng, lating, u can take a relax at this hostel with deliciouse foods. Otherwise u will go though daocheng, lating, u can fill up ur energy before leaving. I totally reccomend to you.

Good location nearby (the remainders of the burnt down) old town. Very friendly and helpful owner couple. Charming wooden Tibetan house. Rooms were nice and clean. Good cooking throughout the day, including Yak burger (although the one at N's Kitchen was slightly better). Short walk up hill to an excellent view point over the city. Can absolutely recommend the place.

Excellent staff, really friendly and helpful. We wanted to spend more nights there to relax but we didn't have enough time. 100% recommended!!!

The 2 sisters in charge are really nice and helpful, they made us feel like at home. Ask for directions by mail before going because it's difficult to find after the fire last year. Also try to the yak burguer, a tasty experience. We definitely recommend this place

The center of the city was burnt on January 2014 and it is not safe to go outside alone after 9pm.

A very nice and friendly hostel, on the edge of the (unfortunately ruined) old town. The room was nice, and the yak Burger was delicious!

The hostel was lovely and our room was clean, warm with all the required necessities. We tried the yak burger, yak steak and the Korean BBQ all delicious and the shangri la wine and beers available there too are great. The staff were all helpful and friendly but a special mention to the owner Jun! He helped us to go sightseeing, get massages and even gave us a guided tour of Shangri la, parts of which we would never had seen if not for him. A great guy with great tea making skills. Thanks again

Staff: Friendliest hostel owner I have ever met. Just wants to make you feel at home, meet people and make friends. Atmosphere: Nice cozy common area with fireplace/stove. Food: Great local porridge (with yak millk), terrific locals beers and AMAZING yak burger. Location: Hostel is literally 50m from what used to be Shangrila's Main Square, although by the time I wrote this, not much was left. Only some stores and 2 nice temples. 10 min away by bus from the main monastery.

I have stayed 3 days 2 nights in Shangri-La. Tavern 47 is located in the central of the old town which only 5 minutes walk to the big prayer wheel. I stayed in privated room 1 night and dormitory room 1 night. They provided electronic blanket and comfy bed. The share toilets and bathrooms are always clean. The hostel has a curfew at 11 PM. and this place you can not make a load noise after midnight due to all room and wall are made from wood. That is good for other people who are sleeping.
