We enjoyed our stay. The owner gave us a very helpful overview of Chiang Mai and advised us on how to get around. The breakfast at the restaurant was excellent. The room was clean and pleasant. There were drinks and snacks available at the front desk. The hotel is off the beaten path, so it was quiet. We had no complaints.

Just an OK place. Good location and prices, but staff barely spoke English. People love their breakfast but I don't go to Thailand to eat German food.

it was not so easy to find this hostel. We were spending too much find to get this one. They said in information of Hostelworld that it situated near Thapae Gate but it's not true - it's far if you go with big bag. It could be easier for us if directions how to find this place were more clear and convenient All another things were good. Quiet, clean and green place to stay.

A military coup takes place in Thailand with a curfew but the owner didn't think to mention it to us when we arrived Nor did he say hello Just threw the keys at us and pointed at the room door-great Got back after curfew which is when he then told us off! They didn't give us a map or help us book any trips The Thai staff were brilliant Not many other backpackers to talk to either-slightly older German crowd (who was happy to talk to and help) Bathroom was filthy- so many better places in ChiangM

Nice place to stay, quiet and near by shops, night markets,etc..everything within walking distance ;)

The staff was very friendly. We chose the cheapest room so there was no air conditioning but the fan worked fine. It was a very nice room for the price and even had it's own bathroom. The location is good, walking distance from pretty much everything. The restaurant in the hostel has amazing breakfast!

The owner is a nice german chap who gave me a discount on arrival. The place is very clean and tidy as you would expect from a german run hotel. The decor was pleasant and relaxing with lots of plants and is well maintained.staff were very nice as well. The only tiny thing was that I ordered some thai food which was quite tasteless. I think this is because they concentrate on breakfasts with emphasis on german food, which certainly looked nice. I would definitely recommend and stay again.

We booked our room because of the good reviews, but as we arrived we weren’t happy. It was dirty and musty. The staff didn't care about us. We just took a shower and started visiting Chiang Mai, which is really a lovely city with a lot of gorgeous opportunities. While walking around we decided to move to another hostel without spending a night in our room at the Thapae Gate Lodge. The staff didn’t ask us, why we are leaving so quickly. They didn’t even say goodbye. We paid the room already!

Great hostel! There is a restaurant attached which has amazing food which is extremely convenient. The rooms are very clean and have everything you need.

Well located and reasonably nice facilities. Not the cheapest budget option, but the double room with AC we booked was clean, well furnished and quite comfortable. Pricing was just right for the accommodations. The staff was friendly for the most part, but nothing extraordinary. Very much a come-and-go-and-keep-to-yourself sort of place, but for some that's ideal. The real clincher about this place is the restaurant on the ground floor. Excellent food options! We ate here quite a bit.

The best breakfast menu in all of Chiang Mai. Good value for money, seeing as you get a clean room with a strong fan and a bathroom with hot and cold shower. Staff is friendly but not really good salespeople. We tried asking about trekking trips and they showed us brochures, but didn't really care if we bought anything or not. Price for trekking was also higher than if you went to a local travel agency.

Nice place, very good location, excellent value for money. They serve amazing breakfast in their restaurant, you have to try it. Lovely lounge serving drinks where you can relax at any time of the day.

Nice hostel. The location is great, right on the edge of the Old Town, close to the Temples, restaurants and local food stalls. It's about a 15 minute walk to The Night Bazaar. There was a slight problem with water in our room but the owner kindly let us change rooms- the place is really good and staff very nice, we ended up staying 3 extra nights. There's also good wifi and a very comfortable lounge area to surf internet, read a book or simply enjoy a drink (the bar is open until late).

We had a great stay here. The location is amazing, right in the old town close to the Thapae Gate. We had a double private with aircon. It was clean and safe, and the staff was very helpful when we needed. Also, i can definetly recommend the breakfast, its great!

Chilled out place to stay with friendly, helpful staff. Just lacking in atmosphere and could have done with a secure locker - great value for money though!

Constructive feedback: 1. The food is impressive, should be used as a strong point 2. Something new needs to be added, in the open space a place to hang out, chat and chill 3. Improving the lobby.... not just a place to sleep 4. Cleanliness is good and staff attitude is impressive.... will certainly stay again

Good place to stay if you're german I would say, but I'm not so it was okay in general. The room was clean, but I was on the ground floor and it was very noisy. We were awaken very early by the staff going around two days in a row (the only two days we spend there). The street is actually very cute. There is a lot of restaurants and bars around that you can try out. The location was great, but the staff was not talking a good english.

Not bad to stay a relaxing life here. But, the cleanliness in the room need to be improve a lot, especially the mattress.
