It is not a bad hostel, but the breakfast starts too late and lasts shortly, and I didn't like this. Another bad point is that they will charge you the reservation quote again (around 20$). The room I had was tiny and the bathroom even more, but you can afford it if you will stay a couple of days

If you are okay with the hostel feeling and you wanna stay in a realy good area, this place is great. We stuckt like in the elevator one time and it hadn´t enought breakfast for all, but we could check it realy quickly and good and the rooms looked realy nice (for a hostel). Everything realy old but the area was great

Among the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. The location of the hotel is good and the stay would have been ok if at least the staff had been a bit friendlier or at least polite. On top of the fact that our room was in the basement with trash can view, all members of staff we spoke to were really grumpy and not helpful at all. When we came back to pick our stored luggage and had a cab waiting outside no one was at the reception to attend us. I would not stay there again.

This place is a blessing!

The hotel itself is pretty rustic, but you can't be the location and the price. If you've ever gone backpacking through the developing world, the hotel is on par with clean, basic hostels you've stayed at in places like India or Jordan. You're not going to impress anyone with this place, but if you're on a budget and you just need a place to crash while you explore/enjoy the city, I'd recommend it.

Not the best hostel in the world, but it fits ok if you want to stay for a night during the weekend, for example.

For the price, an excellent location. I got a terrible room (in the basement) and was unhappy at first, but, again, for that price in that location- what else can you expect? In the end, i was happy to stay here.

It's great. For the location and the amount you're paying, you can beat it. It won't wow, but it's not a true "hostel". They have bedrooms and a shared single bathroom and shared single shower. I'll never look for another place to stay in D.C. unless those paychecks start adding zeros to the end of them.

I enjoyed my stay at the Allen Lee. The location is very convenient. Overall our stay was worth every dollar....clean shower, clean toilet. Tv and phone in the room. Breakfast was included in the price...nothing special, but still really good. The only thing to be improved is the wifi...it only works In the lobby and is shut off at midnight. Also,I was pretty scared to go to the bathroom by myself at 3 am, because there were no security guards, but if you bring a friend you should be alright;)

This is the cheapest solution I found to get a one bedroom with private bathroom in DC. The building is old, painting and windows fall apart BUT the location is great, in the heart of George Washington University less than 5 minutes walk from Foggy Bottom metro station and 10-15 minutes from the White House. +Wifi is free. I just spent 2 weeks there and it was fine. One thing: if your TV does not work and the staff tell you that they will fix it tomorrow, do not expect to have get fixed ever...

Not the best place to stay, but exactly matching the price we paid. Not very clean and pretty noisy, but for that price, we were not expecting more. This was exactly what we needed, a cheap place to seep for 3 nights. Nothing more.

My friend and I both are in the military and we cringed at staying here and we are not fussy. This hotel is a weed in a rise bush. A complete eye sore in everywhere but for what we needed I.e location it sufficed. The taxi drivers knew our hotel as the "ugly hotel". We laughed our butts off when we got out of the taxi and saw our accommodation for the first time (with a dirty matteres in the garden) the movie hostel 3 came to mind. If you are after a bed and electricity stay here!

The hotel is located in an old building and provides only basic comfort. You have to expect the minimum in terms of furniture, facilities and space. However, the staff is very welcoming, extremely helpful, and the security good, in a perfect location, for a rather low price, compared to other accomodations in DC.

The location is good, and overall the value for money is OK. However, the staff could be more friendly. Moreover, the room was not making a very clean impression and the room temperature was far too hot. The temperature could only be adjusted by opening the window.

For $20 a night it's fantastic. Clean bathrooms, reasonably comfortable beds, rooms cleaned everyday, insipid coffee and toast in the morning, cable tv. It is definitely not new or pretty and doesn't have much vibe, but it really is completely adequate for a place to sleep at night.

Worth it for the location. A few issues with heating, both in the rooms and the water, but nothing that isn't fixed with time.
