If you're staying in Philly on your own then it's perfect. College dorms, has it's own cafe downstairs which is brilliant for breakfast, and there's a free gym as well! If ever I'm in Philly again I will definitely consider staying here again.
Ok. This is not really a hostel and likely should not be at Hostelworld.com. This is a place where students live for long periods and staying there 1-2 nights is sorta weird. You have to bring your own toilet paper and clean after yourself when you leave etc. That said, rooms are sorta small but ok. Hard beds. TV, fridge and AC in room. Location is great if visiting the Uni. About a 20-25 minute walk to downtown Philly though. Area felt safe. No parking. Closest garage is $35 per 24 hrs.
20-25 minutes walk to the city center. Very clean. Big room with a fridge and a microwave. Confortable beds and clean bathroom.
The building/rooms are clean but the guest rooms are devoid of ornament. The ground floor is gorgeous, but starkly contrasts the guest rooms which are barren and hospital-like. Some decoration should be used in guest rooms to make travelers feel more at home. Staff should have a city guide with current events in the city and should also be knowledgeable on bus/trolly routes. Events should be planned (at least on weekends) for travelers looking to meet others staying at Axis.

The room was so dirty and smelly! The carpet was full of stains and fluff, and the bathroom was smelling like urine. And there were not linens nor towels (even though they say they'll provide them). We went back to reception to ask about them & after 10 min of waiting the guy told us "sorry, they're not clean or I cannot find them, come back later"! & when we wanted to Check out, we (and another 4 more people) had to wait 20 min at reception because the guy wasn't there! I wouldn't recommend it
We made a reservation for two people, at first we didnt get any toilet paper, only bed linen for one person, the other one slept on her own towel (as a pillow) because they didnt have anything more available. The girl in the reception was very lazy and rude, we wanted to leave our luggage there after we checked out but she said it wasnt technically not possible. She called her manager and it was ok. The only good thing about this place was the helpful guy in the reception.

The dirtiest room I've ever stayed in. And that includes some really dirty ones. There where stains on the carpet, rust in the sink, dust everywhere, burned food residue on the fridge where apparently a microwave used to be. I couldn't even open the window to get some fresh air in the room, because of the noise and smell coming from the ventilation of the 24h pizzeria downstairs. This is no hostel and shouldn't be allowed to operate as one. Extremely expensive for what it offers. AVOID.
It was student housing which they have obviously branched out into making a hostel for additional revenue. Staff were nice but there were no sheets and towels when I arrived, they didn't know to expect me. Room had a bad smell and wasn't very clean. Place had a poor atmosphere for a traveler. I had a poor experience. No information available either.
Staff were helpful in assisting with reservations but had to pry for further information. Would have expected to arrive to a made up room, however it was down to ourselves. Bathroom was somewhat clean, however thoroughly is questionable. If you want to be in the centre, this would not be the place to stay.
