This is a good hostel, in an large apartment. Reminds me a bit of hostel Terviseks in Tartu, Estonia if you have ever stayed there. Staff really helpful and friendly, including ordering me a taxi when I arrived late at night at Odessa airport. The taxi drivers at the airport wanted to charge me 250 hrvynia, whereas the hostel got me a taxi for less than 50.

The hostel is close to the railway station and about 15 minutes walk till Derebasovskaya street, the downtown center. We've stayed in the private double room, which is a very big room with high ceilings. When you're there is very easy to imagine that in that house could live rich aristocrats ... at the beginning of 20th century. The internet is very slow but the kitchen and bathroom are nice. They have this rule of leaving your shoes at the entrance, which is ok for me, it's ... homey :)

The place was fun. Loads of fine Polish and English chics when I was there. The owner (John) made me feel welcome and made my stay great! Thanks again. While there the catacomb tour although a little pricy is a must.

I was only going to stay one night, but the awesome staff and atmosphere held me there for three days. Nice location, very clean, and a really nice traveler vibe. Thanks John and Masha!

The Babushka Grand Hostel is one of the best hostels I've stayed at yet. The location is great, the place is clean and comfortable, and the staff is well, incredible. John is the bees knees. He showed me great local watering holes and establishments of deliciousness. He even took me on a tour of the catacombs below Odessa. Boy howdy! Gee wilikers! I can't wait for my next stay at this cozy abode!

Absolute best hosts I met in Ukraine. John, the owner, goes out of his way to help you out and being an English native speaker communication is certainly not a problem. He is so laid back that we even wound up going with a bunch of people to a bar a couple of blocks away. Next time I go to Odessa, definitely staying there! Thumps up all the way

I've only been away from Babushka for a few days and I already miss them. Everything about this hostel was phenomenal. The staff kick all the a**, the rooms are huge (how often do you stay in a hostel with chandeliers?), and you won't see a speck of dust in the bathrooms. From the moment I stepped through the doors I felt like I was at home. My only complaint is that I meant to stay in Odessa for 3 or 4 days but, thanks to these guys, I stayed for a whole week!

Very friendly staff and really appreciated all of Jon's help initially finding the hostel and then getting a ride to the train station (even though it's very close, I had a lot of luggage to carry.)

If you want an aristocratic Odessan experience and you want to feel how it was to live in an stylish grand apartment in the heart of Odessa in 18th century, this is the place to stay. John and Masha will certainly treat you as a VIP aristocrat! :) Then they will show you how fun the night life can be in this lovely city! :)

Babushka Grand is one of my favorite hostels of all time, and that is no exaggeration. I think some hostels try a little too hard to please everyone and end up pissing off everybody, but Babushka fills the niche for being a comfortable, quite place to hang out and spend your time. It's no secret that I'll be spending a lot of time here, despite having rented an apartment nearby, simply because I really enjoy the people here - Jon and Masha are the best. I recommend this place to everyone!

The Babushka Grand Hostel is in a majestic flat in central Odessa. It is a very nice place to stay and the staff is very welcoming and helpful. All the facilities you need during a short or longer stay are there. It is not easy to find, so when going there make sure you print out the directions from their website

It's a beautiful hostel that's close to the train station and has a great live music bar right down the street. Friendly staff, good atmosphere, and someone is always on shift 24 hours a day if you need anything!

I stayed 6 nights at the Babushka Hotel and had a very pleasant journey. John and Macha are very gentle, helpful and professional. I will go back there and advise this place to friends without any reserve. Thank you. David.

I was very much an unusual traveler to Odessa as it is not at all common to go there in late January. John and Masha were excellent hosts though, and I highly recommend the Babushka Grand. They made my stay quite comfortable.

For the most part, I have been satisfied with my stay at this hostel. However, people tend to get a little too noisy late at night while others are trying to sleep. Also, I have had food stolen, even though I had labelled it.

This place is fantastic. It feels like you're staying in someone's home without feeling awkward or uncomfortable. John, the owner, is American and is great for recommending places to go. It is clear he loves the city and loves to share it with guests. They are incredibly welcoming and helpful and it was a cozy atmosphere.

The hostel wasn't very busy because it was winter, but the staff were wonderful and even helped us order food, recommended some good sights and bars, and were generally friendly and helpful. The location can be slightly confusing, but that's normal in the hosteling world. The inside was beautiful and well kept.

It was a little noisy in the nearest street and windows were not very tightly closed so in the night it was difficult to sleep and cold near the window. Also the doors don't have keys, but if you need the are safes. We don't use them and nothing was stolen but nevertheless it would be better to have key to the door. )) The staff is awesome. Games and coctails in the night. Great time nevertheless. The only bathroom may be a problem although we stood up very early so it was not occupied.
