It's bigger than other hostels that I stayed at which is great for planning day trips and meeting other travelers. The dorm room I stayed in would be nicer if it had a ceiling fan (really hot Summer night) and more convenient electrical outlets. Overall very good experience.

The Backpack is a lovely hostel, the people are very friendly and it is set in a beautiful location with a view of Table Mountain. It was a shame that the swimming pool wasn't clean enough to swim in and that the internet facilities don't allow for use of USB sticks, but small things in comparison. I would stay there again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Backpack Hostel. The flexibility of the accommodation options suited us as a family group. We found the facilities in the hostel excellent and enjoyed the friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The fact that the hostel has an ethos of fair trade and supporting the local community was also very appealing to us.

This hostel is top rated on this website, however, I wouldn't say that it is the best in Cape Town. I stayed in three different hostels during my stay and they were all very different. The staff in this hostel were originally not very helpful but bettered throughout the week. The beds look nice and are comfy with good quality sheets. Beware it can get very hot in the 8 bed dorm. The food and drinks in the hostel are pricey and the same can be bought for cheaper in local bars and restaurants.

A lovely hostel and a great place to start or end a trip in South Africa. We had great views of Table Mountain from our room!

The place is really lovely with great staff and full service. Beautiful view of Table Mountain. It is located a few blocks from the main strip so there is a bit of walking. Our private room with in suite was small and hot. There was no place to put our luggage or clothes. Considering I booked many months in advance I was a bit disappointed. We had fun while we were there- the restaurant was good and we met great people - but we left early because of the room.

Good allround hostel, pool and parking is good. Only complaint is the wifi is only accessible through external providers and not through the hostel itself.

Everything is nice, the view on the table mountain is very beautiful Wifi is not for free - you have to pay and it is quite expensive. Hostel restaurant is overpriced, staff at the reception seems to be unexperienced

Met some really nice people here from all over the world. Also close to longstreet where al they partying is at. The rooms are nice and clean, every day the bedsheets get changed and the showers and toilets are cleaned almost every hour! Excellent hostel, highly recommended!

The staff were all amazingly helpful and happy to answer any query. The hostel also offered the perfect mix of secluded rooms off from the bar area and also a friendly social feel around the cafe/bar.

My 15 year old daughter, who had never stayed at a hostel asked after one day there, whether they could "franchise" this place. She loved the atmosphere, and especially the physical structure of the building. The place was FUN-

I think this Hostel is Overrated. It is expensive comparing what It offers. The price of the bar is higher als a normal restaurant. The atmosfere is poor. And is not good located.

Wow. This is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. It would be top 3 out of about 100. Why choose anywhere else. For me its worth the extra cost.

I had just the best time staying at the Backpackers over Christmas week. I can't honestly put into words how much by me and my mate enjoyed our week there. We met some fellow guests that will probably be mates for life and who could ask for more? All the staff are exceptional especially Neil and the delightful Tina, and the Christmas Day lunch was legendary. It will always have a place in my fondest memories. A big THANK YOU to everyone! Dave and Carl.

Prices are here probably a little bit higher compare to other hostels in the city, but this place really made my vacation in CP. Great atmosphere, nice people, 10 min. walk to Long Street. Safe & parking place right outside in case you have a car (strongly suggested to move along the city).
