Definitely for backpackers and cyclists who are going to explore the countryside and don't mind the small, quiet town. The building's quite old (used to be a hotel) and has a charm about it. Our ensuite bathroom needed some work, but it was a good stay otherwise!

Friendly staff, clean accommodation. Unfortunately the showers were cold and the fire alarm kept going off through the night (approx 4 times - all were false alarms)

The Burren Hostel is in Lisdoonvarna, a little village in the middle of nowhere, the next city is Ennistimon or Lahinch, both are 20 Minutes drives; there are a few small shops, pubs and restaurants/inns in Lisdoonvarna but there is no ATM, most shops accept Maestro/Creditcards but not all the Pubs/Bars/Inns. Ideal base if you want to visit the Burren, Aillwee Cave, Clifs of Moher, etc. There is a Bar within the Hostel, whcih is not fully licensed, in fact they have a wine and cider license.

Thank you Franz for your lovely review of our hostel. We pride ourselves on our location - near some amazing untouched scenery with the traditional Ireland alive. We do not have a full bar license as there are some amazing pubs within walking distance. The nearest ATM is in the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre which is a 15 minute drive. Thanks for staying and we hope to welcome you again someday. Thank you. Warmest Regards Aoibhinn

I will remember my last visit to the Burren Hostel for a totally sleepless night caused by new staff members partying and running amok through and around the hostel. Manageress informed.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere here! Everybody was so friendly, and it was such a neat place to stay! It has a bar, a sitting room, a very large dining room, and a front lobby area as well. The staff was great and incredibly helpful, and the place was clean. Our room was no-frills, but that is to be expected at a hostel. Centrally located so it is easy to get to the sights (by car) or you can walk into town for a meal and a pint.

Thanks a million for your lovely review - we pride ourselves on the atmosphere and vibe of our beautiful building - we have a very friendly team and it is obvious they enjoy working here which always reflects onto guests - Car is the best way to get around but we do rent bikes and there are bus eireann and Galway Tour company buses serving the area - also there is trekking by horse (for a change!!). Thanks again and hope to maybe see you again soon!! Regards Aoibhinn & Heloise & The Team

Staff was so great! Really friendly and helpful. Free towels and the room/bathroom was really clean and spacious! No wifi in rooms was a bummer but they did have it in the lobby and dining areas so that was nice. Only negative was the bed, wasn't very comfortable.

Dear Kathleen Thank you so much for taking the time to put up your really positive review on Hostelworld. We have a great team here, so I have passed your lovely comments onto the staff. Free towels is a nice touch as so many hostels charge for towels. We work hard to keep the bathrooms clean - as I have also worked in hotels - so cleanliness is a top priority. We are lucky with spaciousness of our rooms. Have noted your comment about the Wi-Fi. Sorry the bed was not to your liking. Thank you.

I accidentally booked the hostel for the wrong day, and the lady at the front cancelled my wrong reservation and got me the last free room for the night. Very accommodating. The coded door entry was a little tricky, and I needed help with getting into my room. Other than that, very nice. She put breakfast out early because we were leaving early from the hostel. Great Staff!

Staff extremely friendly, restaurant and pub within walking distance, and only a short drive to the cliffs or beaches. Great spot to relax after a long day exploring the Burren!

Great hostel! One of the best I have ever been to. The building was an old big house with many rooms owned by wealthy irish people, the house was then transformed into a hotel, and then into a hostel. It is huge, it has a bar, a dinning area, a tv room, and a walk-in fridge! It is awesome. Better to stay there if you have a car. It is located in a little town that doesnt have much stuff, but if you are y car, it is the closest you will get to Cliffs of Moher with a great price.

A very friendly place with good sized bedrooms and comfortable beds. Good kitchen facilities for storing food and making meals and the social facilities were also great with having a child with us - separate TV room as well as a pool table and football table. Can definately reocmmend this hostel and we will be staying there when we visit the area again next year.

It is a very quiet place where u can go to relax, however the bad think is the location because there isn't many places to go close to there.

Nice hostel as it had previously been a hotel. The lady running the desk was very cheery and extremely helpful. The kitchen facilities and sitting/dining rooms were great! Very clean, organized and easy to cook in. The rooms lacked cleanliness in that there were unknown bugs in both floor and ceiling corners as well as a number of spiders sitting about in plain view, there was also hair in the bath tube so we chose not to shower during our night there. Still 1 of the better hostels stayed at tho
