Nice little place that felt very "homie"! Trish, the manager, really made it feel like home and was a very caring lady! Could improve on the beds however. Enjoyed the stay!

Overall we had a nice stay here. Good location and clean! But our booking had been completely messed up and the staff didn't seem overly bothered about it.This can be a simple mistake but our two nights booking were stapled together, someone had just not bothered to look at the 2nd sheet. This just seemed lazy to us as the hostel was quiet. Secondly, we had booked this hostel specifically as it had advertised 'free wifi' which it does not. I hope this has been amended on this site and others.

We wouldn't know what it was like to stay at the Cat's Pyjamas as when we arrived they had no record of hostelworld's booking and were full up, so we had to find alternate accommodation.. We ended up in a motel more than twice the price of the Cats Pyjamas..

I advised that I would be arriving late, I had flown into Auckland from Melbourne and driven down to Whitianga and arrived about 10pm to find that they had given my bed to someone else. As it was also the weekend and a couple of days before new years there was no other available accommodation and I was pretty much stranded. The couple treated me very poorly and didn't seem to care at all or offer any assistance or advice. It was a very restless night sleeping in the car.

A lovely hostel, would recommend it to anyone. We had booked into a double, but because the double ensuite was available, Brian let us have it at no extra cost... Legend. Unfortunately, the following morning, Brian informed us that there was a mix up with our booking, and that we wouldn't be able to have a double room for our second night. He was very apologetic and handled it professionally. I found it hard to feel hard done by as we were given our money back and free dorm beds!
