The kids loved it because of the Xbox and big screen TV and pool table. Our room was out the back and was grim and lacking character as well as cold and noisy from all the trucks going past at night. I found the location inconvenient because it wasn't close to anywhere we wanted to go. The manager/owner was very friendly and helpful and very obliging. The kitchen was messy and a bit unclean.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the manager even picked us up from town to save us walking with all our stuff. The free internet, laundry and tea/coffee are great bonuses too. Overall, great value for money!

Enjoyed staying at the custom house. Only negative is the downstairs area, especially the kitchen, is in need of a good clean and tidy up. Comfortable lodge, friendly staff and guests, loved the Xbox area.

Hey had to review this hostel, I booked for one night and stayed for five, great atmosphere, clean, free laundry and great staff. They loaned me free camping gear to camp at Able Tasman park which was a real bonus for me. Best hostel I have stayed at on my trip around New Zealand

Great set up with excellent living areas, a huge flat screen with Sky and dozens of DVDs, and a good kitchen. The rooms were great - we had a 4 bed dorm and it was a really good size. The biggest let down was its cleanliness - the rooms were ok, but the living areas could do with a really good clean! Still a good spot to stay though.

ACan't fault the attention and caring nature of the Manager, but hostel needs extra cleaning attention. The flies and the state of kitchen area are in desparate need of an upgrade ASAP.

Absolute worst hostel I've ever experienced. I don't even know where to begin. Filthy. Unorganized. Very bizarre.

Great building, and location is good in summer in between beach and town, town centre is about a 15 minute walk though- bike rentals would be a good idea! Owner is very friendly and maintains a good relaxed atmosphere which is rare in hostels, although some of the guests left a bit of a mess around esp in the kitchen.
