great location - in the centre of shoreditch! good bar at the bottom. rooms were generally clean apart from the floor which was extremely sticky! needed a mop and when we asked the person at reception to have a look he said yes, but nothing was ever cleaned. the showers were cold in the morning which never helped, and the breakfast was average. However, you get what you pay for i guess.

It was for sure the best hostel I've stayed in London. It's basic but cool.

Hostel was lovely and clean, they could do with investing in double glazing but for a hostel I understand that this may not be a priority!

Definitely not the 'best hostel ever' as some posts say. The place seems to be run by a bunch of friends, so I suspect not all reviews are legitimate. It is very clean and comfortable, but has no soul and disappointingly, no communal area or kitchen. There is a bar downstairs but it doesn't evoke much meeting and greeting as it is also a public bar. A lot of people seem to stay just to have a bed after a night out. There are better hostels in London.

The hostel and staff were nice, but the main rooms were under construction. I wish they had said that on the website or in an E-mail. The kitchen was not working the intire time I was there! I would not have booked that hostel if there was no working kitchen. I don't eat out, I like to cook and save money. I would have chosen a different hostel.

Even though they were in the middle of construction I really enjoyed this hostel. I felt that they proved a comfortable atmosphere which encouraged everyone to become friends with their roommates. I made many friends here and have a lot of memories as well. I highly reccomend Dictionary and will be returning in the future

It's a cool hostel! shame I just stayed over for the weekend. Breakfast can be improved. Noise - yes, the neighbourhood is generally loud at weekend nights. They didn't check my ID when I left my bag before checking-in time.. SECURITY guys! I could be a nobody just popping in! still considering coming back when i'm down in LDN. hopefully the next time the terrace is done and no 'canvas tunnel' more.

The bathroom is waaaay to small, even for someone little as I'm. 1,69cm 68kg and I almost don't fit there. The locker is nit safe once is just a basket with a chain.

The Dictionary was my first stay at a hostel but I hold it as the bar to every hostel I will visit from now on. The staff were super helpful, the price is right, is a two minute walk from the tube, wifi in your rooms and the bar, plenty of plug outlets in the rooms, 24 hour reception, showers are awesome, etc. The bar that's attached is a relaxed place to hang out and talk to people but also is a fun and active spot on weekends. You need to go here!

Despite the good atmosphere, the rooms are too small. And there aren't even coat hangers! The breakfast is also very poor. Finally, one can acess the rooms from the bar, and the door is always open. Therefore, it's not very safe.

Excellent hostel smack dab in the middle of hip and happening Shoreditch. The Translate bar below the hostel serves as a great place to relax during the day and is visited by guests and locals at night. Great place to start your explorations! Rooms come with their own bathroom-facilities en-suite (at least the two person room we've stayed in did). Minor gripe is that we had to miss out on warm water during one morning. Nevertheless: highly recommended!

We had the worst time trying to find this hostel. Most of it was our fault, but even once we made it to the street, it was very difficult to find. The signage was poorly lit and very small, so we literally walked passed the hostel without even knowing it. Other than that though, the breakfast was better here than other hostels we've stayed at and the added feature of having personal storage cages underneath the beds was great.

The place and staff are very nice, but the rooms are too small in my opinion. I stayed in a room for 6 person and it was a little bit difficult for everyone move around... Besides that is a very good place.

Ridiculous that you have to pay £5 for ONE towel. Very expensive, compared to equal standard hostels. Good location. 'Building Site' feel wasn't to my liking. Room quite dirty. Wifi only in reception and bar downstairs.

Overall I was very happy with our stay at The Dictionary, however there was a cock up with the pricing and also one of my friends was taken off the booking by mistake which meant we had to rebook him which took time and effort and with a hangover the last thing you want to be doing is that and also sorting out pricing.

This hostel is definitely for young people. Very good atmosphere, nice staff, good location with hip shops and nightclubs right there. Had a great time and would go back for sure!

I'm an Australian working in Europe and I use London as a base for organising visas, buying supplies etc. I've stayed in six other hostels in London and none of them even come close to being as good as The Dictionary. East London is the best place to discover the heart of the city- and the welcoming, comforting and social benefits of staying at this hostel are simply too good to ignore. Next time I'm in town, this is where I'll be sleeping!

Locations is very good , we like it . It's mainly around many cool bars to hang out on night . The metero station is about 10 mins walking. You should bring your own breakfast and towel to be really satisfied .. :)
