I've stayed in a lot of hostels, and this is right up there with the very best. Great atmosphere, clean, secure, excellent facilities: everything you need from a hostel.

Nice and clean... Pretty far away and seems like most guests are long-term and as a result witnessed social interaction but not much mixing with short stayers! Wellington is a brilliant city though... Kitchen and commons areas were clean and well done

Extremely clean, nicely decorated hostel. The finishes, flooring and furniture are very nice. Only complaint was the guy at the counter who checked us in was unnecessarily rude.

The 8-ppl dorm was very cold, especially early in the morning (in June). Other than that great atmosphere, but a little bit far away from the city center. Might be much more pleasant in warmer months.

Great atmosphere, very social. Free breakfast was simple but great. Clean beds with power outlets next to some of the top bunks was awesome. Great location.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Dwellington. It feels like living in a shared flat. Breakfast for free and a tennis court next door. And the supermarket is just around the corner. Take the bus or go for a 30 minutes walk to the city.

The hostel was good! Very clean, staff was very friendly. The girls in the room however was awful! Made it clear they didn't like short team guests....I have travelled all around oz and New Zealand and this is the first place I have ever come across A group of girls like it....real shame as everything else was ideal. So don't take it personally!

Was a great hostel overall, but there were some incredibly strange things about it. The main criticism would be the kitchen. There was a really large breakfast bar type island in the middle (which in your own home would be epic) but with loads of seats around it people tend to camp around, meaning there is essentially nowhere to prepare food. Take the chairs away, and it would be fantastic. There was also no microwave - definitely need one of them. More bathroom space too please. V good overall.

Really good for just 25 dollars. Big rooms, comfortable beds and clean bathrooms and kitchen. The WIFI conection its really bad, but its free and unlimited.

Had a very pleasant stay with my daughter and will stay again. The only two things we found that could be improved is a thicker duvet so you dont have to have the heater going all night when its cold plus a better pillow for your head.

Beds are great. The free is a major plus, but the free wifi wasn't working.

We stayed for one night and it was the best hostel we have ever stayed at! The staff and everyone else staying there were awesome and super friendly. The free movie night was a good way to spend the evening with others in the hostel! Also they have free breakfast which is super sweet! All around good vibes!

The Dwellington is a nice hostel, it is quite far away from everything though. I felt the Kitchen wasn't big enough for the size of the hostel and there was no room in the fridges for food. There is free wifi but the signal isn't great. Staff were friendly and helpful but overall was a little disappointed

Definitely best hostel in Wellington, if not even best in NZ. Rooms are big, enough power points for everyone, enough space for everyone's bags, really nice atmosphere! One and only complaint: the room was pretty cold when I stayed there but they were about to get new heaters and it was no problem to get an extra blanket.

Follow blog link below for full review. Updated/new hostel with cool vibes, but underwhelming WiFi and sound insulation. If you're driving here, pay attention to the directions - one way streets make a missed turn a long delay. Also, good luck as far as parking. It's a stone's throw from the US Embassy. Easy drive to the water, museum, beach, etc. WiFi only really works by reception. Kitchen is a wow. http://www.howdareshe.org/hostel-review-the-dwellington-wellington-new-zealand/

I enjoyed my stay very much and will certainly come back. The only suggestion I would make is that there is an individual reading light for each bed fixed on the wall. Thank you very much.

Hostel has a lot of longer term residents but still a really nice place to stay. The best kitchen I've ever seen in a hostel and not too far from the bus, train and ferry terminals. Close to a supermarket too

Best hostel in Wellington, great location, great staff, great atmosphere. As it's located between the American and Chinese Embassies it feels pretty safe. 10 - 20 minutes walk to the CBD, most people are long termers, but you get easily into their "community". New World super market is next door. Kitchen is well equipped and a good place to meet everyone. Rooms are clean and comfortable.
