Staff were fantastic. Only complaint "too noisy" but to be expected when above a nightclub.Think you need also need to work out some car park deal, the website said that you had parking but doesn't mention cost or how far away it is.

Excellent stay in a wonderful location (can't beat it really). Matt from Kennedy's was especially nice to me, helped me with my bag up the stairs and even arranged for me to change my dorm when I didn't like the people in the first one. My stay was perfect and I would stay here again.

The room was very dirty (dirty floors, dusty) although the bedding was clean. Many things in the hostel were broken (bathroom door handles, washing machine, kitchen door didn't open from inside). There is a sensor light in the shower room which switches off every 2-3 minutes leaving you in the dark while showering unless you open the shower door to re-activate the lighting. The hostel is above a bar. Reception is actually in the bar/club. Check in was amidst drunk patrons and blaring music.

Not sure why this hostel is so highly recommended. Undoubtedly it's in a good location and the facilities are in good condition. However one huge problem is it is located above a nightclub, which means that you have to suffer huge noises until late in the night. Also there is no reception in the hostel building, if you meet some difficulties you have to look for a staff in the nightclub, which is quite difficult in the night because they will be busy preparing alcohols.

Awesome breakfast within kennedy's. Excellent location in the heart of the city however, the only downside is not having enough time in this amazing venue. I will be back for more!

NB: this is a review of the private room, not the dorm. It was a waste of money - for that price you expect more than a bed (no other furniture, so nowhere to put bags, toiletries, etc) on top of the noisiest bar in York. If you're staying on a weekend, prepare for bad top 40 shaking the floor until 2am. They kindly left us one pair of earplugs on the nightstand. In fairness, it looked like a nice place to be in the dorms but we weren't on that kind of weekend...

The staff at kennedy's were wonderful. Very helpful, welcoming, and friendly. I can't say enough about them. I ended up staying in what was essentially a one bedroom apt with bunk beds in the bed room. The facilities were great and it was very clean. Unfortunately there was no place to chill and meet people, and my roommate was a long termer who was unpleasant. No lockers in the room was also a negative. This is still a nice place to stay though, and I'd recommend it.

Friendly staff, location, facilities given the impression of 5* hotel not a hostel stay. Thank you.

Very cute, nice decor in the Cabin Room, and very clean. Complimentary tea and coffee but the self catering is a bit minimal (no hot plate or stove or oven type thing, just a microwave and mini fridge) but ensuite bath is brand new looking with excellent heat and water pressure. Beds were rather uncomfortable (thin but instead of foam or similar were coil spring which poked me all night) and staff seemed nice enough, if more engaged in running the restaurant below.

Great place! In an excellent location and the room I stayed in was awesome. It must have been an apartment at one point because it had its own kitchen and bathroom. It was a 8 bed room but split into two rooms of 4 beds so you had a lot of privacy.

This was one of the nicest hostels I have ever stayed in. It felt more like you had a shared appartment than a room in a hostel. I would highly recommend it!

The staff is extremely kind and helpful. It's so nice to be there. Before I went there, I check the comment on this website and was worried about the heating because I saw someone said the heating is not good. After I arrive, the room is cold actually. But after talked to the staff, they shifted the heating system on and the room is nice and warm! So if you've got heating problems, talk to the staff first. I guess most of the problems could be fixed by the staff. We just need to speak it out.

This hostel is simply excellent. We had a beautifully restored room right under the roof, with views on the city. The bathroom had a tub, while the ensuite kitchen was perfectly clean and fully equipped with everything you could ask for if you'd want to eat in. If not, the adjacent restaurant/bar has discounts for hostel guests. Located within 10 walking minutes from the main station and 2 to the Cathedral, you find yourself in the very heart of York. Perfect! I totally recommend this place.

This place was awesome! Staff was helpful and friendly and the room was wonderful! There was a kitchen stocked with tea and biscuits and had a washing machine for clothes! Bathroom was clean and we were given towels and all of our sheets. Central location. Would recommend!

Overall it was a great hostel. i liked that the 8 dorm room was actually split into two rooms and had a bathroom and kitxhen just for the 8 people. the brackets on some of the doors rattled which beca noisy during the night and early morning. complimentary tea, coffee and milk was great too. Basically a great place to stay whether your in town for a night or 5.

This was the best hostel I ever stayed in. Excellent location, very friendly and well organised staff. The room and all the facilities were clean, beautifully decorated and if you are lucky like me, you'll get the room with the access to the lounge and kitchen. It was perfect, I have nothing negative to say about it!!!

Hands down the nicest hostel I've ever stayed in! Great value and location and the rooms were very clean and nicely designed. Staff were friendly and helpful in suggesting things to do around town. There is also a nice restaurant/bar right next door where guests get discounts.
