The hostel was great apart from quite a few moody staff and the fact they decorate the bedrooms with dead popstars. Despite that it is cheap, the beds are private, the facilities are fantastic (love the washrooms) and the location is amazing. I would definitely recommend it and the staff in the restaurant were a lot nicer.

Booked & paid for room with en-suit but put in a room w/o bathroom. Told I had been 'upgraded' as they were trying to space out guests due to warm weather & that room would only have 2 other guests, but there was 8 of us packed into tiny room that was like a sauna! Beds had plugs + lamp but mattress was MOST uncomfortable EVER! TRULY! Kitchen + bathroom were big+clean. Free washer/dryer was good. Breakfast should be included for the price you pay. Noise from bar was unbearable even mid-week!

It's my third visit in York and there is no other option to stay as the fort boutique. Very clean rooms, modern and nice atmosphere, good food and drinks and a very friendly and helpful staff. so, when you are planning a visit in york, make you get beds at the fort ;)

Good location with average standard of beddings and facilities. TV I there but remote does not work and limited programmes. but great staffs, very friendly, helpful

Everything was fine, but my key deposit (£15). I stayed for two nights and left too early, so I put the key in somewhere and make sure with their staff by mobile phone message. But I don't get my key deposit back. I had sent e-mail to the Fort last Thursday. Hope to get reply !

This is the hotel of hostels. Private bathrooms, plush beds and charging outlets by every bed. The common room isn't great for meeting travellers but it could be worse. The bar below makes great food but overcharges for drinks. Otherwise it's a great place!

The hostel was really like a cozy home with a clean, big toilet and a well-equipped kitchen. There is even a free washing machine, which is definitely helpful for travellers. The staff was helpful. Wi-fi signals were strong. The only drawback is that the hostel has no lift and we stayed on 3/F. Other than that, the hostel was really suitable for visitors who want to take a break at York.

All facilities worked well and there was a well equipped kitchen. Unfortunately the internet was very slow when many guests were logged in. Given the price a free breakfast would have been nice.

I give it a 9,5/10! And the only reasons I'm not giving a 10 are because there's nothing to dry your hands in the toilet and the breakfast is not included. But it's close to perfection : the rooms are beautiful, the kitchen and the toilet are modern and clean!

Emma was excellent! The other staff weren't very good though and customer service was poor (seemed more concerned with running the bar than the hostel). Some nights (Thursday through Saturday) there are DJs at the bar that play very loud music until about 3am. Hard to sleep. Kitchen was amazing though, as was lounge room. The location was excellent, within easy walking distance to train station and right in central York.

Great hostel in an excellent location. No hostel 'vibe' if that is what you are after.

The "dorm" we stayed in was more like a swanky apartment (with a fully equipped, newly-renovated kitchen!) that just happened to have 3 sets of bunk beds in the bedroom. The two of us had the place to ourselves the first night, and we felt like we'd won the lottery. Pros: + location (steps from the cathedral) + really nice ensuite kitchen (with washing machine!) + 20% off food at the bar downstairs (and the food is good) Cons: - No shared common area for the hostel - Uncomfortable beds

amazing value for money, our 6 bed dorm room with ensuite also had its own kitchen and lounge, wish i had stayed longer

Staff was friendly and helpful.

Best hostel I've ever stayed at. Everything was perfect. I would recommend this place without hesitation to anyone visiting this wonderful city

I loved staying at this hostel. Brilliant facilities and the staff were so friendly. The only critique I have was the mattress was very uncomfortable (. The location is great and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting York.

Fantastic location because you go straight out into the middle of York city. Bathroom and toilet sharing not great and would have liked a hand basin in our room
