Best hostel I have ever stayed in! The views are unbelievable and so many activities to do. The staff are amazing and hostel gorgeous and felt like you were coming home every time you walked in the door.

This hostel is not professionally run. It's filthy. There were bloodstain on my bedroom floor, a cat sleeping on guests beds, flies everywhere!! There's nowhere for a female to change clothes. I was in a mixed form which was fine but the toilet is too small to change in, showers have no hooks to hang your clothes, you have to drop your clothes on the floor where they'll get wet and the room to wash doesn't lock so you have to get changed in the form in front of whomever is there.

Great hostel with a chillout atmosphere. It is not in the center of the Tatras but once you see the other villages full with hotel buildings you wont wont miss it. Good starting point for day treks (either directly from Zdiar or by bus) or cottage treks. Also a good spot to relax and meet people. Will definitely come back!

Be warned! You won't want to leave this place. The location is absolutely stunning to say the least and the staff are incredibly accommodating and friendly to everyone. This honestly felt like a home away from home! I will definitely be back.

Excellent little spot to relax in the High Tatras. There's a couple restaurants nearby, but the bars were pretty much shut up when I was there. Regardless, the hostel crowd can be fun! The hikes nearby are great.

Awesome hostel, if you want a break from city life. Amazing views and super staff thanks guys :)

This is a rustic cabin-like hostel in a small mountain village. Lots of great hiking nearby. It is very easy to make friends; the hostel attracts easygoing, friendly travellers. However, I didn't feel the staff were very friendly with anyone but each other. The kitchen is huge and has everything you need. Biggest complaint: The heat was never turned on even though it was never warmer than 5°C, so we were always freezing cold. No hairdryer to borrow! Not good for girls with long hair in the cold!

This is a family, an amazing family in a wonderful part of the World. You will regret not coming here. We met so many down to earth people at this hostel, we will definitely be returning one day in the future! :)

One of my favourite hostels in the world. I first stayed at the ginger monkey two years ago and have just returned from another 3 day trip. So beautiful and chilled and full of lovely people.

Hard to give a summarized opinion. The chalet is in poor state, like the owner symbolically bought it for a euro. The porch is super tiny, and smells really bad because of the cigarette fumes. The dorm division is chaotic and the girl had no clue which room/bed she needed to allocate me.So if I get this right the orangutan hostel based it's raves and praises all on drinking and being a hipster? There are dozens of 'penzions' all over Zdiar , cheaper, better maintained, cleaner and more traditional

This place is insane! One of the best hostels iv stayed at ever. Everything from staff to bathroom and bedrooms was perfect. Location easy to get to. Only problem is you think you'll stay for 2 days and get stuck out there for 5+. It's just one of those kind of places. You won't go any where as good as this place

The ginger monkey has been the highlight of my trip. The location is perfect - once you step out of the hostel you are basically at the base of the mountains! Stunning views from the front deck if you want to sit back and relax in the hammock for the afternoon. The staff were incredible- so friendly, fun and helpful. I found this place to be the most social so far- everyone was able to mingle in the common areas and great friendships were formed. This place is +++

An fantastic hostel. look at the other reviews, hell even look at the 'hoscars' there is objectively nowhere better to stay in Slovakia

Amazing little hostel. If you're anywhere nearby - Krakow, Budapest, Prague - and considering detouring here, DO IT! Walking distance to hiking trails. Incredible view from the porch. Great atmosphere.

very nice hostel run by nice people with really helpful volunteers. the kitchen is big and clean and they have a nice common room with tv and dvd and board games. able to head straight off hiking from the hostel to.

Really enjoyed our stay here. very friendly staff who can tell you the best hikes and provide packed lunches. Also an amazing free breakfast is served with unlimited tea and coffee all day. Relatively small hostel which created a nice environment as you get to know the people staying there. Also good facilities and strong wifi.

This is a place I want to come back to (both the hostel and the area)! The Ginger Monkey has everything a backpacker needs, plus an awesome atmosphere, friendly staff & the cutest dog. I can't really say anything negative about this place.

The ginger monkey was the best hostel I have rated at yet. The beautiful surroundings makes the place so chilled and relaxed. The staff are so friendly and will ell you with absolutely anything, big or small. It has such a homely feel with a good kitchen to cook in and eat free breakfast each morning, lounge room to chill out and watch movies and a good verandah to lay back and soak up the mountains in front of you. It is so peaceful and quiet in the dorms and hostel and the beds are comfortable

Amazing stay in the most welcoming hostel we've ever been to. Being there, in the middle of the beautiful Tatras moutains and with the fantastic staff and travellers, was like being home!
