It's a little painful to get to the hostel from Beijing, but it's well worth the trip. Amazing food and great hiking.

The hostel was fantastic. Super friendly staff and so welcoming atmosphere. The location was very convenient .I have been to three sections of the Wall. This section was so impressive, better than the other sections if you love hiking. Very stunning.

We are a family of five, with elderly parents and a young boy of six. The two deluxe king-size bed rooms that we booked are very well equipped to make our stay comfortable, well above our expectation of a private hostel at so remote a village. We enjoy especially the fireplace (we went in deep snow), the stereo and some CDs of classical music, and the absence of TV. And the vegetarian dinner served in their living room/reception/library together with all the guests was also delicious.

Very helpful staff, very cozy place! Had a great hike at the great wall and a great stay at this place :)

This is a great place to stay if you love to hike and want to see a part of the 'wild wall'. It was a bit of a trek to get there from Beijing, but Joe did a wonderful job helping us get there and even organized a for a great driver, Mr. Li to pick us up from the bus station. We stayed in the private suite, which was a bit pricey but totally worth it. Sleeping on the bed was like sleeping on a cloud, and the fireplaces added a nice touch. We would highly recommend this place!

This has not only been my favourite spot in China so far but it is also one of the best hostels I've ever had to pleasure of staying at. Everyone was so kind and helpful, this was evident from the beginning I started communicating with Joe. He answered all my email questions within hours and the pdf. directions we were given with pictures were flawless. We enjoyed two spectacular days of hiking, food, tea, and hospitality. Wi-fi was also the best in China so far! Can not say enough good things

Very good location close to Beijing but away from the usual Great Wall crowds. Hiking in the area is a nice mix of restored and unrestored sections of the Wall. Friendly staff, speak English. Limited food options at the hostel.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Thanks for your comment. It was very nice to accommodate you at our new renovated house. I am sorry that we only offer vegetable food, but there are quite a few options in the village if you love to have some meats or fish. hope to meet you again. Joe

Returning after 3 years I certainly wasn't disappointed. They've just done refurbished:the shared room is still as spacious and bright as ever, but the sitting/dining area is so much nicer now. Loved the real fire for the cool evenings and sitting by the big windows eating breakfast in the morning sunshine. Good home cooked food (I ate the communal meal for dinner) and a varied breakfast menu. Friendly staff. The owner Joe is very relaxed but enthusiastic about the area and can recommend walks .
