i really would like to come back here again!!! the staff was so nice and ready to help you! I had to stay there just a few days but at the end i remained there 6 nights!!! also the location is perfect, near to many other hostels and just 5 minutes walking from Ipanema beach

Got to stay in The Lighthouse again before I left Rio, and loved it again! Great place to meet people, the staff are lovely - helpful, fun and welcoming - I was greeted like an old friend! The dorm is spacious and clean and the bed bug policy is reassuring! I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone.

I stayed in the private room which was great!! Very quiet, decent sized room & clean. The owner- Sylvia is a gem!!! Great stories and extremely welcoming. Haven't stated in a hostel in 6 years and it was such a great experience! If you're going to stay in a hostel in Rio- this is the one to stay!

I stayed at The Lighthouse in 2007, and chose it again hoping to find the same great place that it was back then. And it certainly lived up to my expectacions. Brilliant as ever!

* Poky, filthy, cramped little place with only 2 disgusting little showers, where you are afraid to touch anything, and would not dream of enetering without flip-flops. * Terrible location at the end of a crappy back alley reminiscent of the worst spots on the Koh San Road * Terrible breakfeast including spam which has been left out too long in the heat... * Friendly enough staff but not very inspiring. Honestly, I dont understand how such a place can stay in business??

Owner Sylvia is totally bonkers but extremely helpful and efficient (which can´t be said for all the staff). The double room was a little hot but clean and spacious. We stayed in the dorm one night, but the aircon unit is very noisy! Location is perfect. Good breakfast.

The hostel was in a fantastic location and the hostel staff were really friendly and very helpful. Would recommend this hostel to everyone.

The staff at the Lighthouse are very knowledgable about their city and want you to get them ost out of your visit - very willing to help you plan your sightseeing or exploring but at the same time just happy to chat with whoever is staying. We stayed in the 8 bed dorm which was spacious and quiet - it had an AC & fan (essential!) and lockers right outside the room. Compared to some of the other hostels on this gated street I think the Lighthouse is definitely the best!

An average hostel in terms of character and facilities, but in a very cool setting, surrounded by other hostels and run by lovely people. Pretty good value for money too, although there is only space for ten people to sleep on any given night.

may be you should put some curtains in the window, so sun doesn´t get in your face at 7... and it would be nice if internet conection were free. Rest was really nice... specially staff! Thanks very much. It`s nice tht you give info when you arrive to the hostel...

Pros: Good location, friendly (day) staff. Silvia, Pedro and Mariana are great! Cons: You have to pay for internet. $R an hour. WiFi is not free, costs $R5 too. Breakfast is basic, everyday the same - bread and butter & rotten pineapple. I have had much better breakfast in other hostels. Night guard is rude and abusive - more like a prison guard. The hostel is expensive too in comparison to its neighbours but doesn't offer anything extra.

Fantastic hostel, lovely and intimate with fantastic staff! Great security in a perfect location, will highly recommened to anyone else!

Really lovely hostel, very small so felt very homely and the staff were fab. I had a 30 min briefing as soon as I arrived to tell me about the area, talk me through a map and show me around and its a small hostel so easy to make friends etc. Great location for Ipanema and nice touches like free wifi, tea and coffee, water and a cheap beer fridge!
