12 person dorm has great big bunk beds and huge storage for bags etc below, it was awesome! The restaurant food is a tinsy bit expensive by Cambodian standards but the food is DELICIOUS and 100% worth it!! I miss their yummy food!! Great rooftop bar for meeting people but a shame it closes early. Atleast they take you to another bar to keep things going, which is nice. Overall, really great place to stay while in Phnom Penh!!
Nice enough hostel, the beds are definitely worth a visit and having two private bathrooms in the female dorm was great! We arrived on the day of the election so the whole of PP was kind of on lock down so we didn't get to experience the bar unfortunately but the staff were very helpful! You need to get a tuk tuk to get anywhere from the hostel but I think that's the same for pretty much anywhere in PP! Would recommend!
I thought the place was great. Definitely a great place for both solo and group travelers. The staff was nice and the restaurant had good food. It was a smart move to have the restaurant and bar in different locations to accommodate those who like a more lively scene and those who prefer a quieter atmosphere.

Awesome friendly staff with great English, huge lockers to fit all of your stuff, very clean. Stayed in the new building across from the restaurant. Would definitely stay again, just wish that there was a little more color in the room rather than just plain white walls! If you stay in the Baboon Room, look out for a bathroom full of suds that have come up from the basement laundry room. So bizarre.
The mad monkey is a great hostel, clean safe, decent ppl, great vibe.. Nice range of ages..thanks for an awesome stay :)
Overall ok, but a wee bit unhappy with the front desk team. They were nice and friendly, but they were not concentrate to / focus on solving guest enquiries in the right way. They like to take care of all guest enquiries at the same time, whoever in front of them, but only remember the last question from the last guest and forgot the previous guest enquiry. Unfortunately, I was the first guest....and such situations happened all the time during my 2 nights stay... Hilarious...
Clean & comfortable. Brilliant atmosphere & staff. Need process in place to deal with very ill guests. The Directors need to be a lot more social with the guests. I would promote Tina and her sister - they had great energy and really created the atmosphere in the restaurant area of an evening.

We were sad we didnt get to stay because it was fully booked. But the staff were so fantastic!! So fun, friendly and helpful. Also the FOOD WAS AMAZING!! Please keep your bloody marys/ ceasers the same!!!! It is so hard for Canadians to find a proper ceaser/ bloody mary! We loved it so much we ate all our meals there. We also love your social responsibility plan! You guys are great! Thank you for being an amazing part of our travels.
My friend and I had arrived from Siem Reap and I had emailed ahead to let the hostel know we woul be arriving at 3am in the morning and if we needed to pay extra. They said this would be fine. When we turned up they have no record and told us to either sleep in the bar area or come back 9hours later. Im sure this place is fine but organisational skills are not their strong point and they was extremely unhelpful .This eventually resulted in us checking into another place after 2 hours searching.
Outstanding as always. The staff, the food, the attention to detail - it puts many pricey hotels to shame, and it's the only place I'll stay now in Phnom Penh. Thanks again to everyone for making my stay so enjoyable.
I liked this place, the rooms were very cool with the well working Aircons, the room had a separate bathroom. the Rooftop bar is cool place to meet people and to start the night life.
I loved my stay in the Mad Monkey and was sad to leave! Huge comfortable beds, clean, cool people. There was a mix up with my room the first night which was pretty bad, but the manager came and spoke to me personally the next morning, refunded me for the night and gave me breakfast free of charge... great service and he is a really lovely guy! The best part was the bar and how the staff would take us out when it closed, having a 'chilled night in' was just not possible for me
Loved it! Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are both loaded with businesses "giving back" and "supporting the local community," and Mad Monkey is no exception, although I don't feel the need to surround my stay here in quotation marks. Honest operation, great facilities, clean room, awesome food, fair prices, a free welcome-to-our-hostel beer, happy hour when it rains, tours organized. An exceptional hostel.
No complaints at all. Food - Delicious (western and Khmer options delicious). Bar - views, very very cheap beer, themed nights every night (we were there for ladies' night - 2 for 1 on cocktails only for the girls. Win.). Happy to advise and help with your plans around the city, and incredibly friendly crowd staying there. A tear was shed at leaving. Thank you Mad Monkey!
The atmosphere at Mad Monkey Phnom Penh is great! The staff were friendly and very helpful. It was a very easy visit because the guys at Mad Monkey made it so. The food was great too.
What a great hostel! It's clearly supporting the local community as all of the staff are Cambodian and incredibly friendly and happy to work there. The bar is a great place to meet people, you can be the DJ and pick your own music. Loads of choice of drinks and food available. Great breakfast and lots of teas like Earl Grey. The music is turned off around 11pm to be respectful to the locals and give everyone a chance to sleep. The manager will suggest places to keep parting if you're in the mood
Myself and three friends stayed in the Mad Monkey in Phnom Penh during July 2013. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were excellent. Extremely efficient, cheerful and helpful. Great place to meet people, it's really sociable! The Mad Monkey boasts a very tasty restaurant which was also good value for money. There is a great rooftop bar. Activities take place every night The only downside was that in one room the air con didn't work and it was never fixed-but they still had a fan!
