Best Location in Ipanema. Next to restaurants/bars & 1 block from beach. I had a last minute flight change and booked the Mango Tree at the last minute. Ed at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. He got us booked on a tour to a soccer game that evening. There was some construction happening while I was there, but I think their patio will be very cool once this is completed. There is actually a mango tree and a mango fell off it next to me while I was eating breakfast - sweet.

Everything is good about this hostel. Great Breakfast, great location. The only problem is that there is BED BUGS. I got bitten for 2 nights. I killed at least 5 bed bugs in the middle of the night. My bed was 4-2 in the dormitory. The thing that frustrates me was that I told the staff about the BED BUGS problem, and she did not even act on it. She just acknowledges on it, which it is unacceptable. It is a pity, as it is such a good hostel. BED Bugs and the lack of urgency are disappointing.

Nice hostel, good for meeting other people though it's a shame the bar has to close at 10pm. wifi is a bit rubbish.

A great hostel very close to the beach and restaurants. This was a wonderful place to end my trip. thanks! My only negative comment is that the support for the fan in my room was broken and only pointed towards the floor which made for very warm nights. if the support could have been fixed this would have made my stay more enjoyable.

The Mango Tree is a nice hostel in an excellent location, but I'm not sure if I would stay there again before exploring other options in the area. Here's why:

expensive drinks at the hostel (more expensive than at the restaurant for the white wine). Mixed dorms so you can expect very loud snoring... Otherwise, not a bad place to sleep. Average hostel

Probably the best hostel I have ever stayed at. Clean and very friendly. The staff is very helpful and the hostel bar is great. The hostel bar is perfect and a good place to meet people and enjoy a Caipirinha!

great place. amazing staff and location. one small comment - the bathrooms can get a bit nasty at times...some small and easy recomendations would be to put garbage cans in the bathrooms that you can open by pressing a lever with your foot...at the moment one needs to lift a lid and hygenically thats a bad idea...also, many people just throw the paper on the ground rather than touch the lid with thier hands...hence the bathroom gets nasty!

Hostel was in a good location. I had my own locker storage under my bed which was good. Didn't see much partying going on at this hostel but there was a decent area out the back if thats your thing. Bathrooms were ok, clean enough, no complaints. Breakfast was included, which hosted the usual South American delights.....Had a bit of trouble with the WIFi connection but got it to work eventually. Overall good hostel, however there are some more modern options close by.

One of my favorite hostels anywhere - I've stayed on more than one occasion. It's in a great area, it's clean, it's conducive to finding/creating things to do each day, and the staff has always been great.

This hostel is relaxed has good breakfast and clean rooms. The hostel is situated near the beach and many nice restaurants and bars. The best thing about the hostel is actually the staff! Especially Liz is a really fun and makes the best caipirinhas with maracuja in Brazil. I would highly recommend the Mango tree. Only the showers are to hot (difficult to adjust)

I loved staying here. I'm not a party girl so it was chill enough with cool people who would stay up and drink if you wanted, but no one was outrageous or loud. Everything was really clean and they gave you sheets a towel and free breakfast. It was a great great stay.

We stayed in the Mango tree for 5 nights at the beginning of a year long trip and couldnt have begun in a nicer hostel. The staff were extremely helpful and made Rio an absolutely fantastic place to visit. This small, friendly excellently located hostel is definitely worth it. Thank you to all at the Mango Tree

The hostel is set in lovely gardens with a really good terrace and bar at the back. Clean and quiet but didn't seem to have much soul. Really good location for shops, restaurants, bars and beach.
