Mango tree is a fantastic hostel in the perfect lotion, one block from Ipanema Beach which is a safe area in Rio de Janerio. The staff are A grade and will help you with your plans while in Rio and will help with taxis etc when you leave. The kitchen facilities are quality which makes cooking in a viable cheap option. 5 stars

Very nice hostel, only one block away from Ipanema beach in a very safe area! The dorms are nice and clean, the bathrooms are clean, they have lockers, free internet and give you good free breakfast! Met lovely people there and will stay again at the end of my trip.

Liked it how there were private bathrooms, rather than toilet & shower blocks

Very secure, felt safe at all times, and the location was excellent. It was such a shame the vibe was so weird and I think that might have come from management. Bathroom was kept fairly clean and the breakfast was excellent. Delicious juices!!

Thanks to all the great staff, v.friendly and helped with tours and any information about Rio and Brazil. I extended my stay at the hostel an extra week. I will definately stay here again when I come back next year! But I found the 6 bed dorm Room 8 alittle crowded, maybe better for 4 or max 5 people. Also not having internet facilities past 11pm, maybe could have an extra PC in reception or TV room. I dont have an issue with the bar closing at 10pm, its nice you care about your neighbours

This is all that you could want from a hostel. Free Internet and wifi, good free breakfast, and amazing location. The tv room is so cosy and has loads of dvds, and the book exchange has loooads of books. The staff were really helpful, I always like it when they carry my backpack to my room for me. I would definitely stay here again if I went to Rio.

I think the room is very small, but I know that if there were fewer beds in the bedrrom it would be more expensive, so this problem is acceptable. The guests in my room let their stuff disorganized and spread around, maybe because some people want to feel at home, but if people keep stuff inside the locker the room would seem cleaner and nice, so I think the hostel could let some advice or informative folder including this question.

The thing about the Mango Tree is it seems to attract poor individuals. This is do to it's location and price - of course if you're a gringo coming to Rio de Janeiro in the summer you're looking to have a good time. I just hope that doesn't mean vomiting in the community sink on a Friday night/morning. Brilliant space - but the owner should be more aware of keeping the community spaces clean and not just hire people to clean in the morning but throughout the day.

Best Location in Ipanema. Next to restaurants/bars & 1 block from beach. I had a last minute flight change and booked the Mango Tree at the last minute. Ed at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. He got us booked on a tour to a soccer game that evening. There was some construction happening while I was there, but I think their patio will be very cool once this is completed. There is actually a mango tree and a mango fell off it next to me while I was eating breakfast - sweet.

Everything is good about this hostel. Great Breakfast, great location. The only problem is that there is BED BUGS. I got bitten for 2 nights. I killed at least 5 bed bugs in the middle of the night. My bed was 4-2 in the dormitory. The thing that frustrates me was that I told the staff about the BED BUGS problem, and she did not even act on it. She just acknowledges on it, which it is unacceptable. It is a pity, as it is such a good hostel. BED Bugs and the lack of urgency are disappointing.

Nice hostel, good for meeting other people though it's a shame the bar has to close at 10pm. wifi is a bit rubbish.

A great hostel very close to the beach and restaurants. This was a wonderful place to end my trip. thanks! My only negative comment is that the support for the fan in my room was broken and only pointed towards the floor which made for very warm nights. if the support could have been fixed this would have made my stay more enjoyable.

The Mango Tree is a nice hostel in an excellent location, but I'm not sure if I would stay there again before exploring other options in the area. Here's why:
