Please make the wifi better!! It was a mission to hook things. Otherwise, everything was amazing!! Loved it.
Highly recommend! Great staff, clean, one block from the beachospital can set you up with transfers and tours, good breakfast..
The staff on reception are really friendly and give lots of help/advice. But the owner seemed grumpy and didn't make people feel welcome. You're close to the beach, get a good breakfast and the common area is good for a drink or a break from the sun.
Perfect location. Average cleanliness. Nice and available staff (even if sometimes they could not speak English). My stay was really expensive, but understandably it was around new year's eve.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the hostel is a bit more relaxed and they provide you with pad locks and towels which was a nice surprise. They have a nice terrace and tv room which is a nice place to relax in the air conditioning. I really enjoyed the staff being so friendly and welcoming and are always there to answer any questions.
Excellent hostel. Two blocks from the metro and one block from the beach. Everyone on the staff spoke perfect English. I stayed in a private room and it was very clean and very nice. The WiFi was good for the most part but was occasionally spotty. There was a good bar area with tables for hanging out with other guests. The whole place quiets down at 10:00PM, so it's not a party hostel. It was nice to have it quiet for sleeping.
It could do with a better common area to chat and get to know other guests
Perfect location. Close to many good restaurants and stores. One block from ipanema beach. Stayed in 3 different hostels in Rio and this was my favorite. Dormitories and facilities were average. Private rooms were nice for the price, beds not as comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and atmosphere was average. The location was everything. Would stay here again.
This best thing with this hostel is the location, i don't think it could be better, just by the metro, near the beach and restaurants nearby. The hostel has a great relaxed and quiet atmosphere, with hammocks around and plants of all kinds. Not that many bathrooms though, so sometimes in the morning you had to wait or walk a bit around till you found one free. All-in-all i had a great stay. Again great great location!!
Great hostel good breakfast great helpful staff wifi slow but ok
Unfriendly crowd in hostel. Good breakfast. Poor wifi. Just didn't feel at Home there.

Good breakfast and good atmosphere but terrible WIFI which is not even worth having; I had to leave the hostel in order to send messages to friends and family at home. You're also charged R$15 more per night (excluding deposit) to book through hostel world. Staff were not particularly friendly.
Very disorganized and unprofessional. Staff do not know what they are doing and they moved my things out of a locked locker and temporarily lost my bag and passport. Horrible.

Great hostel a little on the expensive side but the dorms were nice and clean as were the bathrooms. Reliable hot water. Close to the Main Street in Impanema and one block from the beach. Staff were really helpful
Don't bother staying anywhere else in Rio. Mango Tree has it all -- great location, great staff, great guests, great facilities, and a whole lot of charm.
The hostel is good for those who just want a place to stay in a good location in Rio. Actually, the location is its strength, in the heart of Ipanema, one of the best neighborhoods in Rio. The bar is ok and you must shut up after 10pm. They literally ask you to whisper after that time. The staff is ok, not bad but also not friendly. It's not a party hostel, but it's ok for sleeping and have a well located base to explore the city.
This place is all about the location! Really close to Ipanema beach and many restaurants. Common area is nice, but the dorms were rather run down and there were only shutters, no windows, so quite a lot of mosquitoes at night; also a lack of sockets. Bathroom not quite clean enough. However, breakfast was quite good and staff was reliable, friendly and helpful in organizing transportation or tours, which worked pretty well. As said before, the location is excellent in the heart of Ipanema!
The Mango Tree Hostel is a great place to stay in Rio da Janeiro. Good location and excellent staff. In my opinion the only problem is the noise in the rooms 4 and 5. It is a busy avenue , so it is difficult to sleep in these rooms.
We had a bad experience at this hostel owing to a shockingly rude manager. A misunderstanding relating to when our bill was due resulted in us being shouted at, bullied and disrespected. After the manager admitted the error was the fault of the hostel, I got nothing more than an insincere apology and only after he was prompted to do so. I feel this kind of treatment of guests is unacceptable and it is an embarrassing display of the unprofessionalism of the manager/staff of this hostel.
This hostel is in a great location one street back from the beach. However, its location feels sheltered and there is always someone on reception watching who enters and leaves the hostel. The rooms are simple, comfortable and cleaned daily. The bar area is a great place to meet people and has a really good atmosphere most of the time. The staff are generally OK but some members of reception tend to seem a little stand-offish. Not my favourite hostel in Rio but I'd definitely go back!
