Pros: Very nice and helpful staff, internet voucher, relatively clean, respectful guests Cons: Run-down place in a need of refurbishment, the room smelled (probably due to the old carpet)

So over the years I have stayed in many hostels, including many in NZ last time I was here and the Mousetrap is one of my favorite spots for being so perfectly sweet. Clean, lovely, cozy, 3 lounges, tons of character (cool old art and antiques), spotless, 3 great kitchens, wonderful staff, great location, free bikes, affordable Internet, kinda looks and feels like a house boat, super balcony and gardens. I can go on and on and had a LONG review but hostel world only allows for short reviews :-(

Really friendly staff who recommended and booked all my trips for me. Nice building , the rooms weren't over crowded with beds as is the case in many hostels, individual lockers make this a very secure hostel. Facilities were clean and well equipped. Nice BBQ and lawn areas for relaxing and socialising, and the location couldn't be better really!!! Only negative (this is being picky!) would be the ratio of guests to showers/toilets, had to wait for both in the morning and evening rush!

A great hostel with a nice chilled out feel. Plenty of things to do such as free bikes and tennis plus all of what the Bay of Islands has to offer right at your doorstep. If you're looking for somewhere to kick back and relax with like-minded people then I suggest you stay here.
