Our stay here was absolutely wonderful. The owners were so lovely and helpful. The hostel is just like a big timber holiday house with private rooms. My fiancé and I felt very happy and comfortable here. The entire hostel was very clean. The location is perfect as it is a 3-4 minute walk to the beach and cafes/restaurants and just a little further away there is even more cafes and supermarkets. Definitely a must stay if you are in the Bay of Islands! 10/10! 🙂

Such a lovely hostel, because it's family owned they keep it perfectly running. Nice and chilled with all the facilities you could want. Great location, pretty quiet atmosphere. I had such an enjoyable two nights here and would definitely come back if I was Paihia. Thanks!

Had an enjoyable stay! Was close to the beach although a little walk into the main area of town! People were friendly and it was a relaxing environment!

It is by far the best hostel we've stayed in yet. The owners a wonderful, the facilities are great and the building has a lovely sense of character. Location is perfect for the beach and bars, but doesn't get too noisy. It's just such a calm and relaxing place to be, we enjoyed our stay so much we decided to extend it for another few nights!

The Mousetrap is a nice little hostel. The hallways are all pretty tight (and sometimes confusing but well labelled) so it gets a bit tight at times.

Friendly staff, arranged a spare bed for a friend, when all dorms were full. Relaxing, quiet hostel, where you actually can sleep! The only issue that needed fixing, was the left hand side shower upstairs, it went from very hot to boiling(no cold), not great in summer. The other shower was fine though! Pleasant stay, would return.

Great place to stay. Different than the usual hostels. You get a "at home" feeling.

Great hostel. Very friendly, but also relaxed. The owners are very helpful if you need anything and it feels very homey. There are three well stocked kitchens with ovens which was a big plus. Close enough to everything that you can walk, but not too loud at night, which was great! I would definitely stay again if I had the chance!

This place was great, the house is nice and clean, with many sofas, wooden benches with pillows and comfortable places to stay. You can see the sea from the balcony, and it is one minute walk to the beach. The staff is very kind and they care about keeping the place quiet in the evening which is great !

Very Nice staff. Super freindly and Helpful. The location is very good but is in the middel of the "party street" so it Can be noisy. No problems at all, really good hostel.

Absolutely fab hostel! Really quirky with great decor and gorgeous (warm!) cabin rooms. Nicky and Jake are really helpful with great local knowledge and the hostel layout with great communal areas meant that we met loads of nice people with great stories every night. Have recommended to several backpackers since and will continue to. Would always stay here when in the area in future.
