Great location if you want to visit Fitzroy. Downsides were the lack of air conditioning and the fact that there were quite a lot of long term residents - the room I was staying in was full of unpacked stuff and it was made very clear that one of the long termers had to move rooms to accommodate me which wasn't great. As a result, despite the fact that the hostel had really good common areas, it felt a bit unfriendly to a newcomer.

i was a really upsed about my time in the nunnerys.. i booked a bed for 5 days and i paid 20 $ in advance for that.. i got some problems with my flight so i arrived one day late and i wanted to check in,, but the guy at the reception told me that my bookin is canceld alredy but i have to pay for the night i didnt stayed. So it cost me 30 $ but i didnt even stayed there and of course for the next days they just sold my bed.the only comment he gave me was: thats how it works. That not very likely.

The Nunnery was a great stay- amazing staff, really helpful and friendly and provided good opportunities to meet other travellers.

Great hostel in an awesome location. Clean rooms, comfy beds, friendly atmosphere. One tiny downside: The kitchen- although super clean - is very small and it gets overcrowded easily.

Lovely hostel, fantastic location, only issue was the bathroom-to-person ratio, bit short on toilets and showers.

Loved this hostel- it's like having a load of single beds laid out in an oldy worldy hotel room in a large mansion with high ceilings and beautiful large light fittings! We stayed in the second building, which is, I believe, where the nicer hostel rooms are. The common room is like a stately home living room with a TV and fireplace! Help yourself breakfast is good and the location is easy walking distance to the trendy Brunswick St area. Our shared bathroom was hotel-like

One of the best hostels I've ever been too, after 3 years of travelling.

This hostel was really good.

Nice place to stay in Melbourne, especially a good value for money! Good breakfast in the mornings and FIFA 14 in the lounge - perfect! Very nice staff. Was staying in a pretty small 3 bed room without lockers or any cupboards though.

Nice big beds. The kitchen was tiny though and really really busy. We couldn't face cooking in it. Also a lot of people seem to be here long term so walking into kitchen was a small bit intimidating! Really nice old building though lots of character.

Great variety of breads and spreads for breakfast and tea and coffee all day a bonus too. Kitchen a good place to meet people but rather on the small side in the cooking area and hostellers seem to be leaving dishes unwashed. Plenty of toilet and shower facilities. Dorms facing the road are not for light sleepers with noisy traffic most of the night. Maybe needed to clamp down on keeping the dorms tidier tho' still value for money. Reception folk were all helpful, thanks.

Great building with lots of atmosphere in an excellent location. Staff very friendly and helpful and plenty of showers around building which are hot and powerful. Good breakfast and plenty going on. Many residents long term and not interested in meeting new people and a large group had taken over the facilities a bit - could be a bit intimidating for some people, especially as kitchen quite small for number of people anyway. Wifi is not free. Not best place to meet travellers but good hostel.

Nice place to stay in Melbourne! Wonderful Interiour. You can meet people there but no only for partying. Free breakfast helps ;-) I enjoyed the stay very much. It is close to FItzroy which I liked most in Melbourne but also close to CBD. I would definitely recommend it.
